First Do No Harm: Movie Analysis

Through out the duration of my life, I have seen my parents go through the fear of losing a child. Not only once but twice, and hopefully never a third time. I may not know how it feels to be a parent, but from experience I can see how most parents move heaven and earth for their children. It does not necessarily have to even be a child possibly a spouse, partner, or friend. We can get defensive when it comes to someone we love and care about hoping nothing will put them in danger.
a) Describe 2 examples of the healthcare system in the film not being responsive/respectful to the patient. Discuss how this disrespect can negatively impacts health.

“First Do No Harm”, is a movie that illustrates a mother’s struggle against an intolerant healthcare establishment. The film depicts what is to be an ordinary household family who seems relatively content with life. Having just bought a horse and even planning a trip to Hawaii, the
Stanley, a specialist, who never showed. It parades how they stayed overnight to see the doctor for the next morning. The next morning came and Dr. Stanley still never showed and they didn’t understand why until Robbie’s father came to visit. He explained to them how his job had a six-month waiting period to get health benefits. Lori was frustrated; she had now comprehended why the specialist was a no show. Unfortunately, this happens to a significant amount of patients everywhere, due to insufficient funds or lack of good health insurance, there not able to receive the best treatment. Dr. Stanley was being disrespectful by not even asking one of the nurses to explain the situation of his absence. Doctors have their own protocol on how they attend and work with patients. In this case, Dr. Stanley put Robbie at a higher risk by knowing the severity of his epilepsy and making him wait. The longer he waits to receive treatment determines how bad his seizures might
