I understand that as a student of the College of Education and Human Development here at UTSA I am expected to attend class regularly and to complete assignments and field work in a timely manner. The policy also expects teacher candidates to demonstrate trustworthiness by being honest about one’s background and experiences, and credentials in addition to completing our own assignments and giving proper credit of ideas to others as well as properly citing sources. As a participant in the program I am projected to exhibit both written and oral skills expected of an education professional which show the ability to understand information and connect ideas and feelings with others.
I believe that the student Fitness to Teach policy is used to help candidates stay on the right track and become successful teachers while in the teaching certificate program. The policy rewards the students fit to teach and also penalizes the ones who are not. The policy is firm and will guide the teacher candidates that are fit to teach, and shape them into exceptional education professionals here at UTSA.

Teacher need to be able to relate and care for the children in order to be successful. A group of experts from University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education explains, “of all the teacher elements analyzed by the Virginia group, feedback—a direct, personal response by a teacher to a specific statement by a student—seems to be most closely linked to academic success.” (Gladwell). Being a good teacher has very little to do with the teachers academic abilities but relies on his or her ability to relate and communicate to her students. The gap between good and bad teachers is huge. Eric Hanushek, an economist at Stanford, estimates that “the students of a very bad teacher will learn, on average, half a year’s worth of material in one school year. The students in the class of a very good teacher will learn a year and a half’s worth of material” (Gladwell). This explains that giving jobs to academically skilled applicants should highly evaluated and elaborated to make sure the right educators are chosen. This leads to another part in Gladwell's essay about the hiring of teachers. Coming from the idea of Ed Deutschlander, it is suggested that “teaching should be open to anyone with a pulse and a college degree—and teachers should be judged after they have started their jobs, not before” (Gladwell). Many skills need to be tested in the real situation, and this is a great solution to finding the applicant's best fit for a career in teaching. Teaching on of may situations that the process of hiring is highly difficult and…

I have authority to sell Property and Casualty insurance and Personal and Commercial Lines. I hold a dual Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Business Management and Administration from the University of Phoenix in Irving Texas. I have a diverse background and I was a franchise business owner of a successful commercial, janitorial service as well as a home cleaning service. In the past, I was a sales representative for two car sales locations of a high volume independent dealership. I was ultimately promoted to Loan Underwriter. During my stay in Texas, I was a substitute for all grades at Crowley Independent ISD in Crowley Texas. My most profound experience as an educator was when a teacher assigned a six hundred to one thousand word essay that was due at the end of class. The students did not think they would complete the assignment in time and others felt as if, it was not worth it because it was not possible. I promoted classroom participation and board work. We reviewed steps in writing an effective essay. As a result of my efforts, the class of twenty or more turned in their assignments. The kids respected me as substitute teacher and I was told they did not work that much for their classroom teacher.…

We are writing to you to advocate for the continuance of Miss. Degenhardt’s (Profe) teaching career at Darien High School. We write with the purpose to make you aware of Profe’s profound impact on the community and the growth of her students both in the context of academics and ethics; her notable qualities and dedication to her profession are of a role model. While Profe’s style of teaching is unorthodox at some points, this unorthodoxy provides students with a diverse and meaningful education in an otherwise, orthodox day. A quality that is central to Profe’s teaching and persona is her receptiveness to student opinion, which in our opinion should be a constant in all student-teacher relationships. For example, if a student feels that a decision in terms of either a grade or punishment she made was unjust, Profe is fully open to a one-on-one discussion, either during a mutual free or before or after school. Profe’s actions reject the notion of “my way or the highway” and epitomize the characteristic of open-mindedness: a quality that is crucial in our increasingly globally connected society. For a personal anecdote, during a student’s sophomore year he felt that he did not deserve grade X; therefore, he approached Profe and asked to meet with her before school. The student and Profe discussed the grade and while the grade remained unchanged, he had a better understanding as to why he received grade X and how he can avoid receiving grade X in the future. In another, unrelated circumstance, Profe organizes an annual in-class food drive to afford families in the Bronx a decent Thanksgiving meal, which reveals her altruism and devotion to paying it forward. Moments such as these are what define Profe’s impact and overall career to DHS and academia. As a community, we are here to support a teacher who has supported us. Thank you in advance for your time.…

The key to a student’s success is the quality of their classroom teacher. I believe that in spite of any external obstacles (chaotic/troublesome home life, administrative incompetence, access to services, etc.) a quality teacher can positively impact a student’s life more profoundly than almost any other influence. I believe that Teach for America (TFA) cultivates, develops, and supports the type of teachers who can have this kind of impact. I seek to join TFA for this very reason; I want to positively impact students by providing a high quality experience in the classroom.…
