Flatsound: A Short Story
Soon, the sky gets darker and the sun sets farther towards the horizon. I lose track of time in my thoughts and the music flowing into my ears. Ethan opens my door and brings in a plate of spaghetti, which features bow-tie noodles instead of the normal kind, and a hot pad. I pause the song that was playing, which was “If You Love Me, Come Clean” by Flatsound. “Mom and Dad weren’t sure if you were coming down for supper or not, so they sent this up to you.” He hands me the hot pad and the burning plate, which smells phenomenal. “And, I wanted to say that I like your new hair.” He pulls a fork and spoon wrapped in a napkin out of his pocket and hands the bundle to me. He’s about to leave when I ask him, “Could you bring me up something to drink?” …show more content…
I lay the hot pad onto the desk where the plate was going to be and put the plate on that. I took off my headphones and set them and my iPod (I keep my music on my iPod instead of my phone.) on a shelf on the desk where I keep cords and electronic things. I turn on the radio to 107.1 while I eat so it isn’t dead silent in my room; they usually have alright music on this station. When I’m done, I leave my dishes on my desk because I am still a little weary of going downstairs; I do not want to start an argument if Dad and Chloe haven’t cooled down yet from me coming out to them. I check the weather for tomorrow; it’s supposed to be cold and windy tomorrow, but clear. I lay out a pair of black jeggings, which is basically all I wear these days besides sweatpants and normal skinny jeans, which, thankfully, are all men’s, and one of the sweaters I got at Rue21, the black and green striped one. The others are purple and black and red and black. When I was there in the store, I was very concerned about many, but we had about thirty dollars left from today, which makes me pretty …show more content…
“The coast is clear. Chloe and Dad went grocery shopping,” Helen says triumphantly. I open the door and step into the hallway. Helen had taken her makeup off and put on a pair of gym shorts and a muscle shirt. “Now that you don’t have parents to worry about, are you excited for tomorrow?” she asks me as we step down the stairs into the living room. Last week’s episode of Face Off was on the television. Ethan was lying on the floor next to Colby, who was sleeping behind him. I sit in the recliner and Ashes jumps onto my lap after jumping off of the top of the couch and crawling over to the chair. Ever since we got her, she’s favored me, and sometimes Helen and Ethan; she hates Chloe and tolerates Dad. It was about seven o’clock, so I had time to relax before having to call it a night. We watched the episode where they have to make women in Shakespearean plays out of male models. The whole family really enjoyed these kinds of shows because we all mostly agreed on the worst and best looks and the worst and best artists. Unfortunately, one of my favorite artists, Ricky, goes home this episode because of bad application and a bad

"You come see me after you've done your set tonight, okay? I... want to discuss how you've been doing here so far." Hannah forced her smile to remain and nodded though he wasn't interested in waiting for a response and had already turned his back to her. Once out of earshot she breathed a sigh of relief, glanced over her appearance and undid a couple of extra buttons on the skimpy blouse she had on over the blue and black plaid mini skirt and ridiculously high stilettos which, along with her thong and stockings would be the only thing she'd have left on by the end of her routine.…

Ashleigh always wondered why her mom and dad got married, because they weren't together for too long. “Ashes. I can still hear the fight. It was just a couple of months before the breakup. I was in bed when they went at it. “Her name is Ashleigh!” Mom shouted. “A name you insisted on. So why do you call her ‘Ashes’?” This quote shows that Ashleigh’s family is falling apart and her mom is easily annoyed by her father. Since they are divorced, Ashes and her father have fun days out together. One day they go to a restaurant to eat and they start discussing her father’s financing. “You owe them two hundred dollars?” I asked, trying to keep the panic out of my voice. “I had a thought,” he said as he reached for my pickle. “Your mother keeps a couple…
