Both 8th grade classes have recently finished the book “Into the Mouth of the Cat”. So at this point, you may not know what the book is about, so that’s what we are going to talk about. Lance Peter Sijan; does this name sound familiar to you? Probably not, since he died nearly 50 years ago. Lance happens to be a ‘Medal of Honor’ recipient which is the highest award you could receive in the United States military. He was captured in the Vietnam war when he suddenly crash landed which left him stranded for 46 days until he was taken to a NVA camp. You see, there is a lot to know about Lance Sijan. After finishing the book, I realized that I actually knew a lot about him to the point where it felt like I knew him. Since you’ll probably read “Into the Mouth of the Cat”, I’m going to tell you a little bit…
Could you imagine knowingly giving up your entire childhood at the age of six? The average person still depends tremendously on their guardians at this age. For Andrew Ender Wiggin, he was shipped off into outer space with thousands of other children just like him. From there, advisors pushed him and his army to their absolute limits leaving them tired and weak at the end of every day. Some were as young as seven years old! This just proves that anyone child born with an advanced IQ has no say over their life. Ender and everyone else gets taken from their lives and thrown into a meat grinder. The very few that move on, Ender, later get pushed further. When it comes to Command School, there are no limitations.…
For many years the media have falsely revealed the pitbull as a bloodthirsty monstrous, normally more dangerous than other strong breeds of dog. However, Pitbull’s are the dog of choice for irresponsible breeders, dog-fighters, people who want a tough-looking dog…
The story “Just Lather, That’s All” has both similarities and differences when comparing it to the world. The topic in the story is “every single decision has a value”. First of all, it is difficult to make decisions both in the real world and in the text of the story “Just Lather, That’s All because a good decision can result in a rewarding aftermath, and a bad decision can result in a poor aftermath.” In 1983, Stanislav Petrov, a colonel in the Soviet Air Defense Forces faced an important decision to react to the nuclear missile attack warnings in the Cold War. He refused to notify the officials to send a counter-attack against the U.S., and at the end, it was a false alarm, and he prevented a nuclear war against the U.S. This shows how important,…

As I walk in through the swinging glass door of my grandparents house, the instant smell of fresh white baked bread hits me. The sweet dough crisped to golden-brown is now in sight. I see it sitting there, on the smooth kitchen table to the left of where I just entered. I know that as soon as I say hello a piece of it will be offered to me. As I continue straight into the open living room I notice my gray-haired grandpa sitting comfortably in his cushioned lazy boy rocker. With every slow rock he makes there is a slight creak that overpowers the sound of the Twins game on their T.V. On the crest of the same rocker lies his favorite dog, Lucy. Her white and black, furry belly expands and compresses at the same rate of the slow rock. My grandma,…

The damaging and wrecking of the car may have been seen as a mistake but this was on purpose. Eventually when the youngest sister was in the hospital; dying of leukemia. Zach was given a break. People thought he was over whelmed and hurt the most by this needing a break. The parents then thought and knew who he was. He didn’t really care, he lived for himself and only himself. a. Napoleon took Jessie and Bluebell’s pups to “educate” them. I think that Napoleon is going to educate them on not only reading and writing but on the rebellion and how to develop new strategies. In my opinion they will be taught to think by what Napoleon is thinking because he is going to teach them in his manner.…
The book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck that my English 10 class had to read impacted my life. Of Mice and Men has impacted my life more than other books have. Of Mice and Men impacted my life because it is actually among the very few books that I like that I have read. I liked the book Of Mice and Men because of the book’s description and detail. There are many parts in Of Mice and Men that showed symbolisms if you paid close enough attention to the book.…
Cato leaned further back into his chair, the faux leather covering said chair groaned in retaliation at the movement. His glasses gleamed as if an lightbulb had glowed in front them, his thoughts halted as an idea for his current case had just transpired in his head. His sharp smirk at the idea looked deadly. He would win this case now. He walked back into the courtroom ready to win…
In the text, Gender and Women’s Studies in Canada by Margaret Hobbs and Carla Rice, is a story called, X: A Fabulous Child’s Story by Lois Gould. The main character in this story is not assigned a specific gender, so growing up, the parents of X gave their child both female and male characterized items to wear, play with, and watch. By doing this, X’s parents allowed X to expand and easily discover what it is that X truly is passionate about without the barriers of social constructs. “X was the president of student council. X had won first prize in the talent show, and second prize in the art show, and honourable mention in the science fair, and six athletic events on field day” (168). This story helped me understand that feminism benefits…
