To begin, the viewer becomes psychologically immersed by the use of the point of view shot. For example, the film utilizes this shot a few times throughout and in the scene where Forrest Gump finds out he has a son. In this scene specifically, the viewer sees Jenny holding her son and introducing him to Forrest. She then puts him down and the camera uses a cut away transition of him running into the next room and turning on the TV, then the camera is back on Forrest and Jenny. In the same scene where Forrest finds out he has a son, the camera shows an establishing shot of the set design, Jenny’s apartment. The camera shows Forrest and Jenny standing in the living room and, the viewer can conclude that it is daytime because they can see light shining through the windows. This shot is frequently revisited throughout the scene to not only reinforce the geography of the space, but also to keep the viewer from being spatially confused throughout the film.
