Would you classify yourself as a “Monday-Hater”? A vast majority of students immensely detest Monday because it signifies the end of a relaxing weekend and the beginning of another stressful, busy week. However, if a four day school week was implemented then Monday could be tagged on to the weekend and everyone would become “Tuesday-Haters”. Woodbury High School (WHS) would benefit from a switch to a four day school week because it would save District 833 money, increase student attendance, and decrease the amount of stress in students.…

Some people claim that it will raise scores because of the idea students will be more attentive in school, thus increasing their intellect. Despite these claims, the test scores of students do not significantly increase or decrease. Similar to Beesley and Anderson 's suggestion, it seems that schools save money while maintaining comparable test scores. (The Four-Day School Week: Information and Recommendations, pg. 26). Overall, it seems as though the benefits of a four-day school week are strong enough for it to pull through despite the fact it doesn 't dramatically increase test…

If four day weeks were introduced to schools, the students and schools will both benefit. The schools will save a significant amount of money and students will excel academically and behavior will improve drastically. Whenever we have a student/teacher holiday, less students are absent and behave because they are looking forward to less days of the week. When students have less days to worry about, it will make them work harder so they can finish of the week sooner.…

The traditional schedule for school is outdated because in the old days, it allowed for children to help harvest crops during the summer. Now, the long summer just enables kids to be lazy and easily forget what they learned at the end of the previous school year. If a year round school year were to be implemented, kids would not be able to be as lazy and breaks would not be so long as to let kids forget a whole bunch of their school curriculum.…

The transition from a five-day a week schedule to a four-day a week schedule will be difficult and detrimental by the fact that existing students will need to adjust to the new schedule after attending five-day school weeks up until this point. According to Schmidt, “Despite reducing the number of instructional days from 172 to 149, MACCRAY students have gained more than 17 hours of instructional time by adding 65 minutes to each instructional day. Because there are fewer days, there are fewer breaks for recess, lunch, and time between classes — making more time for academic pursuits. (Schmidt 3)." However, Schmidt’s claim is invalid because the transition could also backfire because the students will…

First off, you will need to learn how the daily and weekly schedules are set up. For example, some of the most popular schedules are 45-15 days. Which means students will attend school for 45 days and then get 15 days off. Next, other schools schedules can vary slightly in the number of days attending and days off from school. For example, some schools will do 60-20 or 90-30 days. It means that that kids will go to school for 60 days and get 20 days off or go to school for 90 days and get 30 days off. Lastly, more than 3 million students go to year -round school. The author, Grace Chen, from the passage Year Round vs. Traditional schedules in Public Schools states, “That nearly 3 million K-12 students in the U.S. attend a year-round school.” Which means that more students prefer to go to a year-round school than a traditional school. Some people that might not like the schedule change, would be parents. Some parents could think, that this could be the best thing, or the worst thing to happen.
