Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the greatest architects of his time. He designed many great buildings and pleased many of his clients. Wright even created an new style of architecture, called “Prairie Houses”, which are spacious one-story buildings. From his first house to his last musuem, Wright excelled in the field of architecture. His name is greatly known throughout America, and he inspires many architects today.
Frank Lloyd Wright was born on June 8, 1967 in Richland Center, WI. His family moved often throughout the country in the first several years of his life, and at age 12, his family finally stopped at Madison, WI (biography.com).
Wright’s parents divorced in 1885, the year that he graduated from high school. When enrolling at the University of Wisconsin as a student in civil engineering, he needed to pay for his family, so he worked under Joseph Silsbee, another architect, on building of the Unity Chapel. That same year, Wright designed the Winslow House in River Forest, one of his first houses. Over the next few years, Wright designed more one-story buildings known as the leading examples of the “Prairie School” of architecture (biography.com). One of his famous “Prairie Houses” is the Eugene A. Gilmore House, also known as the Airplane House which is in Madison, WI. This house was made in 1908 for Eugene A. Gilmore, who was at the time a law professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School (History
