When asked about his previous work experience, Talarico claimed has only written an actual hard copy resume when he was 16 and applying for a job at the Disneyland Hotel. Talarico applied to be a bellman because he didn’t have any skills, but was instead hired as a hotel reservation clerk. The manager hired him due to lack of staff, even though he was too young for the job. The manager insisted that he tell people he was 18 years old and to keep a low profile. However, he rejected the university when he learned his dad only had one month to live (his dad is still alive to this day). Because of this, Talarico went to the closer UC Berkeley for their pre-medical program. He later decided to major in English because Talarico could not see himself being a doctor for the rest of his life with the “boring” type of people going into medical school.
After graduating UC Berkeley, Talarico started working for a for-profit company and realized that the company can benefit from getting a specific grant. However, the grant required that the company be a nonprofit. With permission from the CEO of the for-profit company, Talarico started a nonprofit. Although Talarico’s new company placed second and did not get the grant, he was able to increase his knowledge in running a nonprofit.
