I chose to do my assignment based on The French Riveria region because I have heard of the many areas that make up the region such as Nice and I would like to do further research on the region as I would like to do my 3rd year placement of studying and working in France here if possible.
The French Riveria also known as la Côte d’ Azur is located on the southeast coastline of France. It is home to more than 2 million people with Nice being the region’s largest city. The warm Mediterranean Sea, the epic mountains, the blend of Italian and French culture really makes Nice a unique city. The East of Nice which is spread from the Italian border to Nice is deemed to be the most spectacular part of the French Riveria. It is well known as this is where the Alps meet the Mediterranean. The landscape is beautiful as old towns such as Menton are situated between the water’s edge and the mountains behind. Monte-Carlo would be a good example of a modern town with these features. There are many ways you can travel to and around Nice. After the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airport both located in Paris, Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is the third busiest airport in France. It is on the Promenade des Anglais and has two terminals. On average there is about 39 flights a day. The Tram is a one of the many ways you can get around the city. It was once known as a fishing village but now due to the influence of Celebrity’s such as the famous actress Brigitte Bardot. She was filming here in the 1950s since then it is now known as a fashionable and valued as spectacular area in The French Riveria. Like Nice, Saint –Tropez has a Mediterranean setting which charms its visitors. There is a very luxurious and glamourous atmosphere here because the harbours are always bursting with luxury yachts that belong to the locals also the upscale restaurants and high fashion boutiques that surround the City gives Saint – Tropez such a feel. Although this area is seemed to be very upscale, there is still a Provencal atmosphere. Visitors will see elderly French men playing a very popular French game amongst the elderly called pétanque and local artists selling their work along the port and in the markets. There are many beaches along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne where tourists can enjoy activities such as sailing, canoeing, jet biking, windsurfing and explore the naturist
