Furman University is a premier, undergraduate liberal arts college. As a hard-working student, I believe in liberal arts education and its approach to empowering students with a breadth of knowledge in developing a sense of social responsibility, communication, and problem solving skills.
Aside from sheer academia, Furman University is the right community for me in many other ways. When I was researching the university on one of my first college searches
as a junior, I learned of Furman’s Heller Service Corps. I am a firm believer in volunteering and community service, and I would love the opportunity to volunteer beside a large portion of Furman’s student body.
In addition, I was a performer in many theater shows, a definite highlight of my high school experience. Learning of Furman’s student group Pauper Players was exciting because this is something I would very much love to be a part of in college. Also, being a four year varsity tennis player formed my competitive mind and developed my passion for being on the court. In college, I would love to be a part of a club tennis team, another thing that Furman offers.
During the college application process, there is a lot of talk about finding “the right fit” school. The idea of proudly wearing my favorite color, purple, and walking through the nation’s most beautiful campus while enhancing scholarly activity definitely sounds like my right fit.
The campus community of Furman has shown me that one doesn’t just learn at Furman; rather, they engage, lead, and grow. An education beyond the textbook is something I seek and something that Furman promises. Located near the bustling city of Greeneville, South Carolina, Furman serves to be the right community for me to continue becoming the truest version of myself.
