In 2010, Gaby Rodriguez, a junior from Issaquah, Washington decided to fake a pregnancy as a social experiment for her senior board project. She faced many internal as well as external challenges from her peers, her family, teachers, and the media along the way but the end result made it all worth it. It seemed that teen pregnancies ran in the family, Gaby’s sisters, mom, and grandmother all became pregnant as teenagers. Even though she had a great reputation and maintained straight A’s, no one seemed to be surprised when she followed the ‘family trend’. “After class, Sadia heard one of the teachers say to a student, ‘doesn't she know she just ruined her life?’ It hurt, and I didn't even know why. They were astonished that she was able to endure all the gossip and the rude comments that people would say to her face for nine entire months and yet, not call it off. She was able to get through it. Apparently, the media were also very into it. She thought it was all over, but unfortunately, there were still many challenges to come. Right after Gaby had revealed the news, the media exploded. They were all over her. They were fighting over interviews and special segments with Gaby in them. Gaby was happy that people were impressed by her project, but at the same time pretty overwhelmed with all the attention she was getting.“‘ I'm sorry, Gabby, but we need to re-record your interview,’ the guy said. ‘No, she's mine now,’ said reporter 3. ‘You had your time with her’.‘That's kind of messed up,’ I said. ‘Why can't I just answer a few questions for him and then come back?’ After all, their interview had been very short , and it wouldn't take much time to redo it.” (172). The fact that she was getting so much attention all over again, Gaby was pretty overwhelmed, but she handled it as best as she could.
