22 October 2013 Edmund Burke said, “ The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” This means that if others don’t step up to evil people who bully others it will go on and on until someone good stops it. For example in the article “A Bully’s Bystanders are Never Innocent” by Barbara Coloroso states that “ bullies come in all shapes and sizes and can be bullied in any form or way unless someone steps up and stops it. I agree with Edmund Burke and his quote it is the truth if someone good see’s someone getting bullied and doesn’t try to stop it the next thing that might happen is that they may also get bullied in the long run. In the poem “Yuba City School” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, the author talk about a teacher bullying an immigrant boy named Jagjit and, the kids beating him up Jagjit at recess or lunch without any of the staff members even noticing. In the poem the teacher is making Jagjit sit in the back and get bullied when he should be in front cause he doesn’t understand anything. In the poem Yuba City School by Diva Karuni says that “ Jagjit came crying home from school all week the teacher has made him sit in the last row, next to the boy who drools and mumbles (Diva Karuni Stanza 1),”This shows that the teacher is also involved in bullying the kid and sets examples for the kids. They also bully him in the playground and the staff acts like they didn’t see anything happen. Also the adults at lunch act as if they don’t see the other kids bully Jagjit and beat him up. In the poem Yuba City School by Chitra Banerjee DivaKaruni she states that “In the playground, Jagjit says, invisible hands snatch at his turban, expose his uncut hair, unseen feet trip him from behind, and when he turns ghost laughter all around his bleeding knees (Diva Karuni Stanza 5).” This proves that the teachers or aids don’t even care about Jagjit getting bullied and beaten up by others.
