Victor, a character in the story “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto changes in the story many times, including being nervous, being embarrassed, and being happy. In the first place, at the beginning of the story, Victor is nervous about whether or not Teresa will like him. In the text it states “He raised his eyes slowly and looked around. No Teresa. He lowered his eyes, pretending to study, then looked slowly to the left. No Teresa. He turned a page in the book and stared at some math problems that scared him because he knew he would have to do them eventually. He looked at the right. Still no sign of her. He stretched out lazily in an attempt to disguise his snooping.”(Soto 1). This displays that Victor is nervous because he tries to see whether…
Worry is to be conscientiously or emotionally blocked by fear . This is how Manuel felt in Gary Soto’s “La Bamba” although he should have been relaxed Gary Soto’s theme for this story is that you should relaxed over things that are just for fun. He expresses this through Manuels emotions, Other character’s reactions and Manuels private thoughts. Soto shows our theme by including characters reactions to Manuel’s performance to develop feeling in the characters contributing to the theme. Soto states in La bamba “Funny.…
However, school was extremely difficult to Victor. In fact, school was a different world from his rancho, where his family loved him. He knew no English because his parents spoke only Spanish at home. At school, he faced discrimination from his teachers and other students because he was poor in reading and he was a Mexican, who was said to be dirty and a liar. Although enduring mental and physical abuses and flunking the third grade twice, Victor found other ways of expression by drawing and coloring stars, learning math and shooting marbles, riding horses and helping his parents at the rancho. He acquired understandings from his father and his older brother, Joseph, who taught him how to be a man and to reverse his family and his ancestors.…
“I bet there were a lot of people mad at Shakespeare, too, but aren 't we all glad that he wrote Hamlet?" Yolanda 's sisters said in trying to make their tight situation with their little sister Yolanda just a little bit lighter. Even during the days the Garcia family had resided in the Dominican Republic, and Yolanda had always had a cause to tell her stories in either fact or fiction form. The family had to be cautious in the dictatorship, which in turn, had caused many sleepless nights in the Garcia household. When the family had immigrated to the United States her mother still had to worry about the stories that Yolanda would go on to write. Would she have to wait around for a social worker to stop by the house if Yo were telling her fiction stories at school? Yolanda had to write her stories about the…

Victor is a prime example of a character who's managed to continually reach both moral highs and lows within the confines of a short novel. As a child, he doesn't face any notable challenges which force him to make life altering decisions. It isn't until he's older and is fully incorporated into the world of science that he faces challenges which determine the likes of his humanity.…
Rough draft:In the story “Seventh Grade” the main character, Victor learns that it’s ok to be embarrassed when you want something. For example, his friend has been scowling all day because he thought it attracted girls; when Victor tried it out himself, he felt very embarrassed because two girls were laughing at him. He felt that way because he thought he was foolish and because of the two girls laughing at him. Later he believed that it actually worked because those two girls weren’t laughing at him, they were just eyeing at him.In addition, during English class Victor’s teacher says,” Victor give me an example of a person,” Victor says “,Teresa.” Having everyone know who Victor had a crush on was very embarrassing for him. This very embarrassing…
Victor’s utter carelessness is revealing when it comes to the flaws of his characterization as a scientist. He cannot bring himself to admit to himself what he has made, much less to other people, asserting, “I could never persuade myself to confide to him that event which was not often present to my recollection, but which I feared the detail to another would only impress more deeply,” (Shelley 54). This is a pathetic attempt by Victor to justify his own guilt, and once again Victor resorts to isolation when it comes to his experiment. Not only did he abandon the Creature, but he also makes every effort to not have to think about it. His desperation to avoid responsibility shows that he is a far cry away from holding himself accountable, and it uncovers a fear that society will view him as an inept contributor. Furthermore, Victor would rather live with the guilt of knowing Justine was innocent rather than having everyone think he was a madman for conjuring up the possibility of a new species. After Justine’s conviction, Victor moans, “Anguish and despair had penetrated into the core of my heart; I bore a hell within me, which nothing could extinguish,” (Shelley 75). Victor lets the Creature and Justine take the fall for his cowardice, because he cannot fathom society viewing him as…
victor and I.” (as cited by Clugston, 2010, page 30, lines 17-20). When I read this the first time I thought they were still at her house. After reading it a second time, I realized that he was in his own bedroom getting ready for the dance at the Golf…
