Roux-n-Y gastric bypass surgery is the most common and successful combined weight loss surgery in the United States. For people who are morbidly obese (BMI of 40 or greater) or BMI of 35 or more with serious health issues, the surgery benefits them more then not getting it. It has been said that 95 percent of people who diet to lose weight put it back on within two to three years (Dr. Leibel, 2005). With surgery you have the tool to change this because you will have a smaller stomach which helps prevent so much hunger at least at the beginning. People who are morbidly obese should seriously consider getting this surgery because the pros outweigh the cons by far. A majority of patients having surgery for obesity can expect long term weight loss if they follow all the postoperative guidelines. Gastric bypass has …show more content…
given me a second chance in life to feel better and to be healthier.
For me this surgery has eliminated my IBS symptoms, brought my blood pressure way down, and improved my sleep apnea.
This surgery has been significant because it has improved my health and quality of life. Gastric bypass roux-n-Y surgery has changed me tremendously. I am getting healthier and starting to figure out different exercises I enjoy and finding some healthier recipes that the whole family enjoys. I have more energy, so I now look forward to exercise especially zumba. Since my health is now improving, I tend to think differently about food and what I put in to my body. My confidence has improved greatly as I have lost weight, because now I do not feel like people judge me as much. I now eat to survive, not just for pleasure. My way of thinking about losing weight has changed because now I know that it is a life style change not a diet. I find myself thinking of different ways to burn extra calories, like parking further away in parking lots so that I have to walk further, and taking the stairs instead of
elevators. As with any surgery there are some risks with roux-n-Y gastric bypass surgery like staple leakage, ulcers, narrowing or blockage of the stoma, vomiting, and in some cases weight regain if the dietary changes are not followed long term. However your risks of heart attack, stroke, or diabetes related illnesses increase your risk of premature death. I have never regretted my decision for weight loss surgery. Everyone who is morbidly obese should at least attend a gastric bypass seminar so they can make an educated decision and consider getting gastric bypass surgery and improving their quality of life. If you follow all your postoperative guidelines you can usually expect to see long term weight loss. I feel significantly healthier and I know I am because my blood pressure is always lower than it has ever been. I used to feel like I had no energy and just plain unhealthy, but now that I am losing weight I have so much more energy which makes me want to do more things.
