I am interested in specifically working for GEICO because they satisfy all of the factors I consider when deciding between different firms. GEICO is a stable company in a stable industry. GEICO is the second largest auto insurer in the United States and offers more than just auto insurance; they provide life insurance, homeowners insurance, and many other types of insurances. I say that GEICO is in a stable industry because as long as people are around, we will always need insurances for a variety of different things.…
I have chosen two of my works to edit and revise to make it free of errors and perfect. My business letter and process essay, the works I have chosen, are very similar to each other. These two pieces are my favorites that I have picked out of my W.I.P. file. The letter and the essay both blend with a favorite subject of mine. They both involve sports.…

Thank you for presenting this recycling opportunity of business to the Owl Recycling Factory. The recycling and reusing of materials such as the ones that you have brought to our attention reduce pollution for our environment every day. There is a slight problem, however, with the state in which your materials will be given to us. Owl Recycling Company must first separate different substances from one another before sending them out to be reused. Since the four materials in your dump truck are ground into a fine powder, the Owl Recycling Company will need to carry out a procedure other than what we normally would use to separate them. As you know, the materials included aluminum soda cans, steel cans, milk jugs, and soda bottles. We fortunately have many useful tools in our factory such as a conveyor belt, a large tank filled with water, another tanks with sugar water, powerful magnets, and nets to skim our tanks. I would like to propose to you our plan to separate your recyclable powder mixture. Due to the materials being on your property, we need your OK on our plan before we can begin our recycling work.…

SAMANTHA PIERCE 14 Brattle Street Cambridge, MA 02138 (617) 495-3108 spierce@jd13.law.harvard.edu December 1, 2010 Miriam A. Nunberg Staff Attorney U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights 32 Old Slip, 26th Fl. New York, NY 10005-2500 Dear Ms. Nunberg: I am a first-year student at Harvard Law School and am writing to apply for a volunteer summer internship with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights in New York City. I learned about your organization through Harvard Law School's public service database and through Harvard students who have interned at branches of the OCR in other cities. Interning at the OCR would allow me to continue my commitment to civil rights in education, and I feel confident that I could contribute substantively to the work of your office while strengthening the skills I’ll need for a career in education law. As a senior at Cornell University, I wrote an honors thesis on the politics of bilingual education in California and New York, focusing on strategies for protecting minority students’ language rights. Because my career goal is to work on language issues, and discrimination generally, in American education, I wrote my master’s thesis on language policy in Spanish schools in order to gain knowledge of how other countries handle these complex issues. This semester, I’ve gotten involved with Harvard Law School’s Advocates for Education, as well as the Child and Youth Advocates, organizations which have exposed me to the work lawyers can do to promote education rights. Additionally, joining the Latino Law Review has kept me updated on the issues facing minority students. My work with the Harvard Defenders has begun to give me experience in public interest litigation, and working at the OCR would allow me to gain experience advocating for the specific client populations I hope to assist in my career. Because of my familiarity with language issues and New York’s bilingual education policies,…
