Research Paper
Democracy is a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges. For democracy to be accomplished an understanding of how it interconnects with gender equality is crucial. Gender equality has the greatest impact on advancing Democracy for the simple fact that women make up a little over half of the population in the United States, if this majority does not have full rights the society is not Democratic. Women contribution to politics has been restricted by the assumption that a women’s proper place is at home. Also add to the fact that gender inequality within families, unequal households, and beliefs of cultural attitudes about gender roles further defeated women and at times continue to limit their rolls in politics. The growing representation of women in government politics is essential to reach gender equality. Female politicians like Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and many more has made strides in the world of politics. Although women are still outnumbered by men, there are now more women in politics than ever before.
A patriarchal society is a society organized and ran by men, unfortunately that is the society we live in today. People often use the terms "it’s a man 's world", and “behind every good man is a good woman.” Those quotes illustrate how men create the rules and dictate in all forums outside the home, for example, business and government; and society feels that a woman 's main role is to support a man, have the children and stick to housekeeping duties, not to …show more content…
Females can lead a prayer but not from a certified religious position, women can also be missionaries, health care givers, ushers, contemplatives, and educationalists. There a few women that has become respected evangelist, but there has not been much of a chance with how women are viewed in religion.
A democratic society is supposed to project and practice the idea that all human beings, men and women, are equal regardless of their mental or physical or political strength and advantages. The times has changed and although there are more women in leadership roles than in the past, women still are fighting for gender equality and respect. There is still a lack of female representation in politics, society still feels as though a women should not run for high office like presidency. "Gender parity in elected office has become a central goal of national governments and international organizations around the globe, motivated by arguments that women 's inclusion is crucial to achieve justice, promote women 's interests and make use of women 's resources for the good of society." (Krook 2014). Gender equality has came a long way since 1920 's. The fact the Hilary Clinton was a democratic nominee proves that gender equality has had a great impact on advancing democracy, but it still has more barriers to break
