There are countless reasons and motives for gender stereotyping, but our business, Global Printing, has a few very specific reasons, which are supported up by a number of resources. One of the main purposes, in our company, for choosing to report on male dominated sports is because these sports are more commonly viewed than female sports, creating more opportunities for profit. Lopiano, a part of Sports Management Research, states, “When female athletes receive media attention, the media is much more likely to focus on their physical attractiveness or non-sport-related activities” (Lopiano, 2014). This shows that the media is not concerned about the female athlete’s skill or strength, but their body image and beauty. With this in mind, is it better to show females, as an object, rather than a skilful athlete, or to not show them at all? By having the media constantly reporting on the woman's body image, this can quite often put negative and unrealistic images and goals into your female’s minds. If a we were to constantly show female athletes as models or objects, we wouldn’t be achieving a potential profit.
Future sport reports from our company will attempt to focus on non-gender bias sports, such as archery or triathlons. The percentage of female sports coverage will be raised to around 30-35% of all coverage. By raising the percentage, but still not having it even, we get the best opportunity
