Reason for sports:
* Intended to promote harmony and understanding between nations through the interaction of athletes, who serves as ambassador of their countries * Recognise the excellence of athletes * Bring people who are watching the sporting event closer as well. * For e.g. this can been seen through social media platforms! When there are such events, people would tweet and share their thoughts and words of encouragements. * Able to foster ties between people of different countries as they come together to support an athlete.
Sportsmanship:
Conduct (as fairness, respect for one’s opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport.
Having mental power to stay composed in a situation that could result in conflict.
Endure a loss and not retaliate against the winning team.
Uphold integrity as an athlete and not resort to ways that would be considered cheating.
E.g. Dara Torres, in 2008 Women’s 50 metres swimming event. The 41-Year-Old swimmer from USA helped one of the swimmers from another country just before the race started. Dara Torres noticed that one of the swimmer’s suit was torn and reported this to the official, requesting to only start when the swimmer got a new suit.
