Genetic Cloning: Can Humans Work In The Future?
As the human race we have come far technologically, we have found out how organisms work, how our planet works, and how our bodies work.We are now on the verge of creating and producing perfect babies. Babies that have no problems concerning genes. The problem is, do we really want to play with nature, do we really want to mess with the natural order? I personally think we should give it a try, the possibilities could help us in the event of a major disaster. Like in the movie GATTACA, they depicted how perfect humans would work in the future. This movie could be how genetic advances could end up, or it could start wars. In this paper there will be pro and cons of genetic developments with a summary.

We're going to start with the pros. First, It could eliminate all bad human genes. As humans reproduce continually, there is also an increase in damage to their DNA lines, creating defective and mutated genes, which could be eliminated by cloning healthy human cells. Second genetic cloning could help us as a species. Cloning humans is an innovative method that is an extremely powerful tool to bring

Not only that plants and animals can be revived with cloning, but also humans can be cloned to offer potential benefits to other people who are living. Next it could advance our medical technology. For people who became quadriplegic due to horrific traffic accidents and professional athletes who tore their ACLs, recovery time could be long or it is even impossible for them to get back to their original state. However, cloning their own cells can lower recovery time and true healing could occur, or remaking major organs for transplants. Finally there is “Baby shopping”, the ability to pick your child's physical traits. Whether it be height, eye color, or even

The essay “Building Baby from the Genes Up” by Ronald M. Green explains how in the future, parents might be able to design the genes of their future baby. Green supports genetic engineering of embryos, “why not improve our genome?” (549). He thinks that with the process of in vitro and preimplantation, it could eliminate disease or confer desirable features onto our future. Some medical professionals is concerned about the effect of genetic selection in parenting, Green said “The critics concerns may be less troublesome than they appear”, he thinks that parents will not love their children any less in the quest of perfection, and any kids will not be pressured to live up to perfectionist and expectation.…

On the other hand, there are quite a few cons that potentially outweigh the pros of cloning humans. The first con is that human cloning is unnatural. According to Lombardo, “many feel that interfering with the natural process of pro-creation would lead to other attributes of life being altered” or displaced from society. Many people are opposed to this issue due to their religious beliefs, because they feel man will be replacing the higher being as the creator of creatures on this Earth. In a scientific point of view, using an older cell to create a new organism could possibly cause an “imprinted age [to] be place on the growing embryo”, resulting in faster aging (“Pros and Cons of Human Cloning”). Lastly, because human cloning is a roughly…

There are some positives to cloning but only therapeutic cloning when it is used to replicate cells. Therapeutic cloning produces embryonic stem cells for creating tissues to replace injured or diseased tissues(3). This can be used to cure people not harm them. Artificial cloning can be good for the studies and discoveries that have been made but otherwise the animals that die are not helping anyone.…

While a large portion of society do not believe that we should clone any species there is the portion that whole heartedly support the quest to prefect not only the cloning of animals but the cloning of humans. By cloning we can create new ways to fight diseases and other health problems by doing things like cloning a liver for a person whose is shutting down. Cloning can also help bring a species back from the brink of extinction due…

The practice of making designer babies is wrong. To begin with designer babies wouldn’t make the human race thrive. When the gene pool of the most popular genes, then they are reducing the human gene pool. The variation of the gene is the cause of the human race to survive, the variation helps the humans withstand any diseases and other genetic problems. (Krimsky1)…

Cloning can change the way we live our lives. If we could perfect cloning we could do amazing things with science. For example, cloning could help out in many experiments. Maybe save lives by helping to find a cure for diseases by using a clone of someone you were examining, but died in the process. Like the movie “My Sister's Keeper”, in this movie the oldest daughter is diagnosed with Leukemia and the parents create a younger daughter that is almost an exact replica of her. The younger of the two is used for parts every time the older needs them. Cloning could be used a lot in situations like this. “I take the view that anything you can do to relieve suffering or improve human health will usually be widely accepted by the public - that is to say, if cloning actually turned out to be solving some problems and was useful to people, I think it would be accepted.” (John…

Cloning is useful on a bacterial level for doing all sorts of science related to DNA. Bacterial clone libraries are kept with every gene we find. Cloning on a larger scale would allow us to produce an organ transplant without worry of rejection from the host. Whole animal cloning is only useful for people who want the same looking pet they had that died or maybe you had a good steak and you wanted to clone that cow. The possible impact of cloning is improving the overall standards human beings. Cloning will do a lot for medical research. It will also challenge people’s ideas about life and about themselves. Disadvantage of the use of cloning are adding clones to the population would make things worse, world would eventually explode. Benefits of the use of cloning such as medical emergencies for an example if someone needed a heart or someone needed something donated or replaced. Cloned genes are also used to produce drugs, insulin, clotting factors, human growth hormone, and industrial enzymes. In 1952 scientists transferred a cell from a frog embryo into an unfertilized egg, which then developed into a…

Reproductive cloning on the other hand won’t be good as well. In the article's reproductive cloning arguments pro and con it is mentioned that “Reproductive cloning would diminish the uniqueness of an individual.” Reproducing a child is the most beautiful moment you can experience. Mostly because your partner (that you love) and you have created a human being that won’t look similar to any other person. Cloning yourself to have a “child” will ruin the perspective of bearing or raising an actual kid. Having a clone as your “child” wouldn’t be a great idea. Hhaving a kid is a major difference than having a kid that looks exactly like you in every way. Those who can’t bear children because of multiple reasons have the opportunity to adopt a child. Why want more when you can get a kid without going through so much…

I think cloning is bad because if we genetically alter clones and develop people to be perfect beings then there will not be diversity and there will be problems because people will be choosing selected genes to make the perfect child. Everyone will have the same bodies and diseases will kill a lot of humans because they are all the same. Cloning is also a big moral issue because the concept of making people could interfere or disrupt people’s beliefs and religions.…

The society that we all live in today is so set on achieving the impossible. With a new era of technology unfolding before our eyes, the question of morality and where the line is drawn continues to threaten our society and leads to ponder whether or not these advancements are truly positive for the human race collectively. Science has progressed so profoundly over time, that the idea of turning a baby into an ideal, or “designer” baby is starting to become realistic. Another medical breakthrough is the concept of cloning, and wondering how far can we can take this type of power over mother nature. Genetic mutations also have a high probability of negative impact in…

In the United States alone over a million people die from violent crimes. Another 3+ million U.S. citizens die from car accidents every year. Some of those lives lost in tragic unexpected ways could eventually be saved through cloned organs being quickly transplanted to replace critically damaged ones. Eventually cloning could even advance far enough to produce an entire human body there by completely restoring a life tragically lost.…

Science has now reached a point where upcoming parents can choose what type of genes their children can be born with and not realizing that it can go terribly wrong. While trying to modify our babies the ending result can create a new illness that might not have a cure for it. According to Sheldon Krimsky “with respect to the farmer, there are safer and more dependable methods for preventing the birth of a child with a severe genetic abnormality than by genetic modification of the germ cell”. Modifying our babies can create an illness that will inquire a cure that won’t be existing but these babies will also create a gap in our society.…

Another issue regarding prenatal alteration is that of designer babies and the similarities this has to historically superior races influenced by eugenic ideologies. Genetics as a science is a historical scientific breakthrough that has changed the world, “but it also unleashed criticism, ranging from moderate philosophy to doomsday prophecy. Some scenarios were of the stuff of science fiction: human clones, androids, cyborgs, super-intelligent-strong-creative humans, post-humans, a world divided into a genetically enhanced elite and genetically deprived poles etc. There is talk of a loss of “human hood” and the human meaning of life, of scientists “playing God” — of interfering with nature, of being morally unconcerned with the social consequences of their research.” (Agar, 2004).…
