Genetic Engineering Argumentative Essay
Who has the right to say who can and can’t genetically alter their body if they had the chance to? Genetic engineering is the only possibly way to make that happen for people. If this was applicable for human use than the world would as we all know it would change. As of right now though this is only being currently being tested on plants and animals such as: flowers, corn mushrooms, mice, pigs and monkeys. When genetic engineering can be perfected then humans can be altered to cure diseases, fix deformities before birth and possibly give people the ability to be supernatural. If genetic engineering becomes a reality in the near future then it would indeed pull in positive results. The first example of Genetic engineering is in plants …show more content…
Since genetic engineering in humans does not have as much research as in plants and animals, scientists don’t have as many results and possibilities of the outcome, but they know for a fact that it is very possible for a few traits of genetic engineering to happen. One definite possibility was to make disease dissipate forever. If this becomes truth in the future than millions can be saved from killers diseases such as: malaria, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, cystic fibrosis, and more. With this as a leeway then long term life is another opportunity. Scientists are now studying the effects on healthy individuals for the ability to live longer, and that life span can be from 100 to 150 years old. The way geneticist make this work is that they make the process of aging longer. With the ability to live long it gives people time to think and reflect on what their purpose in life is. The last known impact genetic engineering on people is that their bodies will be able to automatically adapt to pharmaceutical products. With this in assistance, there will never be any bad side effects when someone takes a pill prescribed by their doctor or any pill, for that matter. Another prospect of genetic engineering in people is that it can fix deformities in children before they are born. With this there would be no worry over such chromosomal diseases such as Down syndrome or cleft foot.

Genetic coding plays a big role in life expectancy. There is still a lot of research to be done and test to be performed, thus making genetic coding unsafe for the time being. Until further research is performed, we do not know the life expectancy of someone who has been fully genetically modified, nor do we know about any health problems related to genetic coding. As genetic coding is researched and tested more, maybe one day it will be safe and legal to…

This however is not true, because scientists say that they are closer than ever with their new technology. There are many more positives than negatives in genetically engineering. Another benefit is that people’s lifespans could increase by about 30 years. For example in the article, Designer Babies by Michael Catalano, it promotes that another advantage of genetic engineering is that it can increase the human lifespan by 30 years. This proves that people will live longer and know it. They will get to see way more than we ever will. In Designer Babies it also says, “Humans have the will to live and if gene medicine can improve our lifestyle than we should be accepting of this new technology.” (Catalano) As you can tell this new technology will improve our lifestyle as well as letting us live longer. People will get to enjoy their lives more with this new and improved…

Brave New World author Aldous Huxley was not very far off with his interpretation of our future society with hypotheses like overmedication and genetically engineered humans. I would like to focus on the latter and the benefits of the ability to alter not only people, but also foods like vegetables and fish. In Brave New World, genetic engineering is the heart and soul of the massive government that overlooks the entirety of the country, the World State. Workers alter the chemical make-up of each individual to ensure the most productivity and stability as possible. The World State created four main classes: Epsilons, Gammas, Betas, and Alphas (in order from lowest to highest class). With the technology to alter DNA and genes, the World State has total authority, which is desired because people must look to an authoritative head for leadership. Genetic engineering allows restricted individuality; this way, no one is more special or necessary than anyone else. It…

Human genetic engineering is the process by which the human genome is being modified and manipulated in order to remove or select certain genes. Moreover, traits that are desirable can be selected, and preventing the genetic causes of diseases is possible. Human genetic engineering, as a new field, has raised a lot of questions and ethical issues. I argue about where we should put the limits for our genetic editing. Should we just use it to prevent harmful diseases or can we carry on with the modification and choosing the desirable traits of our future generations? Who decides? Who has the right to object? I will try my best to provide reasonable answers to those questions throughout my series of blogs, based on scientific articles that talk about its controversial and ethical aspects.…

When scientists begin to alter and change a person’s gene, the genes the person is born with and scientists take too much risk to change a person’s gene. Once something wrong happens anything can happen to a human maybe there will be a disease or illness and this can cause really bad effect on people, there will not be many cures or treatments for the human, they will die or get a heart attack if genes are overlaid. I believe that genetic engineering is only general; everyone knows that it comes from organisms. But it can still harm anyone because it has not been studied for a long amounts of time, its just what scientists predict, who knows maybe they can be wrong. I believe that scientists are wrong and they shouldn’t do anything, before they have fully…

Genetic engineering often gets a bad rap with changing the natural evolutionary cycle, but it could, with proper guidance, improve almost every aspect of daily life. Advances in the Biotech Revolution have made many things that we had merely considered to be science fiction or a thing of dreams are now possible. The fact of the matter is that genetic engineering is applicable to everyday life while still being ethical and inline with people’s morals.…

How would you feel if I told you that the food you're eating was made in a science lab? Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are the outcome of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially manipulated into the genes of an uncorrelated plant or animal. Crops are often genetically modified to be resistant to pesticides so farmers would be able to spray them without harming the crop itself. However, there are many consequences regarding consumers’ health and environmental problems. Many people question the safety of consuming genetically modified organisms. Companies should acknowledge that their product is genetically modified by placing a label on the product because customers have a right to know. Furthermore, there are several serious health complications that may rise to the consumer. And finally, genetically modifying organisms should be limited by being placed in a controlled environment to prevent contamination with other species because it can be harmful to the environment in several ways.…

I believe that there are choices that come with a science like this. Using genetic engineering to alter people's faces, eye color , or intelligence levels is not ethical or biblical. Ephesians 2:10 states, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. This means that God meant to make us the way we look. Altering appearances negates God’s will. However, improving someone's quality of life for the better by removing extensive pain or suffering is God’s will. Cosmetic use of genetic engineering is an uncharted risk that could have unintended consequences ,while also bothering 83% of the population.…

Genetically Modified Organisms have become a scientific phenomenon in curing world hunger. Unfortunately, over one billion people fall victim to one of the world’s leading causes of death, malnourishment. Many critics believe that GMOs do not provide enough nutrients and “good stuff”, therefore they believe that many people consuming GMOs are in danger. Others say that GMOs can fix world hunger because they can produce hundreds of GM foods at a time. My side is to believe that GMO shouldn’t be used to solve the problem of world hunger.…

The argument between whether genetic engineering is wrong or right rages on every day, and will continue to be an issue until everybody can come to an agreement on what can and can’t be done. Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, writes about how she feels and questions the progression of modern science and how far we can go until it is just morally and ethically wrong. Through the mind of a young scientist, Mary pictures the possibility of what could happen if we venture too far into the unknown and how could it harm everyone. Knowing the line between continuing and finding things that can help society and knowing when to stop is essential to stop something from happening just like in the novel Frankenstein. Not only that, but many people argue over the fact that modifying the human body is wrong and go against the will of many different…

Despite the common belief that eugenics were practiced solely by Hitler and his followers during the Holocaust, the original exploration of eugenics began in the United States. Many organizations in American funded eugenic research, then the ideas were exchanged into Hitler’s possession. After Hitler set about achieving his goal of a “Master Race”, prisoners in concentration camps encountered the harsh techniques used to fulfill Hitler’s desires. In camps, such as Auschwitz, harsh Nazi soldiers would violently control prisoners. The Nazi regime wanted to eliminate the Jews primarily, along with anyone else that did not fit the Nordic race.…

Imagine a world where we can have two of everything. Think about the possibilities. Imagine having two Ankits. Actually, I kinda want to take that back now. One Ankit is already too much. I might as well walk myself off the stage, but before that happens, I need to tell you a bit about genetic engineering and cloning. So what is genetic engineering and cloning? Well genetic engineering is the deliberate modification of the characteristic of an organism by manipulating its genetic material. While cloning is using this genetic material to produce an exact replica of the original organism. Both these processes have…

The controversial issue of genetically modified foods, commonly known as GM’s, has only gained the attention of millions, since it became a prominent and highly debated global issue. Genetically modified foods are created when the genes of an organism are engineered and modified to create a new or enhanced version of that organism. The process of using different genes from different sources to genetically modify foods led to public outcry and sometimes, praise. People in support of genetically modified foods claims it will enhance the quality of the food, improve the food’s resistance to pests and other harmful elements, lower food costs, and also increase food security for the future. However, those opposed to genetically modified foods claim…

The article Genetic Engineering Debate: Are There Line We Shouldn’t Cross? written by Jessica Erickson discusses the ethics of genetic engineering and her own thoughts and views of genetic engineering. The article states what is going on currently in genetic engineering. Scientist have made many different types plants and animals, also scientist have made the new plants and animals more efficient, and we’ve made so much head way to making genetic engineering better. Next, Erickson’s opinions on genetic engineering are that if we are going to genetic engineer people we should focus more on disease prevention than human enhancement, also Erickson states that people don’t fully understand the consequences or good things that come from genetic…
