because she is being recognized for something she can not do. An example would be,”Your a celebrity,” Aubree gushed. “Emma you’re famous!” “Yeah,” I admitted. “But I’m famous I can’t sing or dance. I humiliated myself. This is not how I imagined it”( Yee 17). This quote is significant because everyone saw Emma’s video and is being nice to her because she is famous. Emma is upset because she is only famous for not being able to sing or dance, and doesn’t wanna be famous for not being able to do something. Additionally, in “Good Enough,” is also dealing with a conflict of person vs society. Dori’s conflict is that she wants to be like all of the popular girls at her school by getting a certain shirt that all of them wear the grand, famous Orion shirt. An example is “She flicked her eyes down my body, taking in the hand-me-down T shirt with the faded football on it, from my brother Cal, and the brown corduroy shorts AJ had outgrown. She smiled sympathetically, which is what made me feel bad”( Pogue 13). This quote is significant also because it shows that Dori is unhappy, from the girls putting her down about her clothes. She feels worthless if she is not like the other girls wearing a Orion shirt. In conclusion, “Girl Can’t Dance” and “Good Enough both have the conflict of person vs society. One difference between “Girl Can’t Dance” and “Good Enough” is how people treat, or think of them.
In “Girl Can’t Dance,” Emma is upset because she made a fool of herself, People may laugh but they are also being way more nicer to her because her youtube video had gone viral on the internet. So the kids who were mean to her are starting to suck up to her to get on her good side because she is famous. An example would be, “Then the strangest thing happened. Some kids were starting to be nice to me. One day a random girl had a shirt that said Girl Can’t Dance on it”(Yee 17). This quote confirms that they are treating her differently, because before her video was online and went viral she wasn’t recognized at school. Now people are treating her different because she is famous. On the other hand, in “Good Enough,” Dori is not treated the way Emma was. Exactly it is the exact opposite Dori is treated very harshly by girls at school. She is struggling because she is being bullied for being herself. An example would be, “Caleen taunted, is that an Orion shirt?” I shook my head and kept on crying, ready for the humiliation and punishment I deserved. “No,” I blubbered and ashamed, “It’s a fake”(Pogue 14).This supports my evidence because it shows Dori is being recognized for having a Orion shirt but then tells them that she is ashamed because she wanted to be like them. In conclusion, these stories have the same conflict but are being treated differently for their
conflict. Therefore, “Girl Can’t Dance” and “Good Enough” have many similarities and differences. One similarity between these two stories is the conflict. Difference between them is how they are being treated for that conflict. In my opinion, these two stories are very relatable to not only girls but boys also that deal with bullying in school, or judged for being who they are. I know that I can relate to these to amazing, realistic stories.
