Assisted living is often viewed as the best of both worlds. Patients have as much independence as they want with the knowledge that personal care and support services are available if they need them. It is very important to have a plan ready and to ask as many questions as you can because it is for your loved one whom you will entrust to other people to take care of. Keeping in mind that it needs to be a great fit for the patient, meaning: is the care they need available, what security system is available when it comes to ensuring safety for those who wanders, how their entire system works and what are their rules, etc. Assisted living are designed to provide patients with assistance with general daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming and more, rather than people who need constant nursing care. To make sure that your loved one is safe, you have to check if the facility is credible. Visiting the facility and seeing it for yourself and seeing what it’s really like inside and out can convince others that it's credible enough for them to have their loved one be put in the facility. Being able to observe how the system works is how you can tell it’s credibility. “Assisted living records are centralized on one website rather than across a few websites. There is detailed information about the community, like: License number and expiration date, address, contact information, contact name, owner History of state inspections and documented violations, viewable documentation for inspections and violations” (Anderson, 1). Being able to check its credibility is that their facility has been around for years and has a good review. Observing the staff and how their system works, get the feel for the facility and then look for the pros and cons of the facility, then make a decision from there. To really know if the facility is trustworthy, there are ways by checking reviews online or even asking staff or patients at the facility.
