Phil 1030 (MWF@10:45)
Position Paper #1
I. At this moment in history both atheists and theists are wrong in their proclamations of the non-existence or existence of the traditional Christian God.
II. Simply put we do not have enough evidence to know whether God exists or not, there are too many epistemological issues to pair with the limitations of human exploration. While many questions can be asked to raise inquiry about Gods existence, there are none that demonstrate it to be false or true. Therefore, both atheists and theists are wrong in their proclamations that it is possible to decipher Gods existence or not. While both parties site their faith in their respective beliefs it is not a credible source to prove or disprove Gods existence. What about the bible, many theists ask. Although relevant, the bible, just like faith, is just as easily proven to be an invalid source in determining Gods possible existence. Faith by pure definition means firm belief in something for which there is no proof (1). If there is no proof then there is no way of knowing whether God exists or not, plain and simple. This knowledge combined with the definition should make it more than clear that faith cannot be used as evidence of Gods existence. In addition to this statement faith is not credible due to the nature of its subjectivity (2). Each individual, whether a believer or not, has different interpretations of the ideals and morals that make up their faith. This creates a unique and different perspective in each eye of the beholder (2). Supposing this is true a general consensus of faiths interpretation is impossible to come to, with the exception of it definition. As I stated earlier, a firm belief with no proof or evidence, faith, cannot be deemed as truth. Consequently this rules out the possibility of faith proving Gods possible existence.
While there is no denying that the Bible is a real artifact does not mean that is a feasible source of
