A search engine works mainly using three main tools or methods which combine to form the basis of the search engine and enable it to provide accurate results for the query provided. The first process involved in the working of a search engine is “Crawling”. Web crawlers are used by the engines to explore publicly available web pages. These web crawlers browse the internet like how a normal user would do and go through the contents in web pages and also the links on these web pages. Let’s take the case of Google. Google’s search algorithms were so successful that exporting it to international markets was quite easy as there would be very limited competition and the company only needed to adapt the search engines for the various international languages. Google understood the vast global market available for Search Engines and was highly successful in entering into the global market. Two years after the inception of the company (2000) Google users could search for web contents in about ten different languages. To cater more efficiently to each region in the international market Google launched websites (local domains) for each individual region it was functioning in. By 2007 the Google search engine was compatible with almost 120 global languages and had about 160 local domains. Users who searched for queries from regions which had their own local domains were redirected to the websites of the Google search engine’s local domain. The search results were shown in the local language and results which were custom-made for that particular local area were shown to the customer. This meant that there was an individual Google search engine for each region where the company operated and this was one of the key reasons for Google’s global success.
