The first meeting I went to was girl state and boy state. There were two girl and two boys that came to talk. Some brought poster, objects that they made while there, and others just came and talked. The meeting was for the people that sent them to girl/boy state. They were able to invite their family and friends all together there were about 20 people. Some held government roles part of the court, newspaper, and more. These are only a few examples of the possibility that there are when you go to state
I went to a meeting at the firehouse and they talked about how they do regular checks to the trucks, holes, and uniforms. They went through and made sure the fire hydrants and full and accessible. At This meeting about 30 people attended it. They talked about all the different ways they can help people, with truck and boats. Each person gets assigned to each boat or truck. At first they were talking about fundraising for the CV Starr. Soon after they started I could tell the lake of planning and communication there was about the topic. This is because they started of with how to fundraise then switched to how CV Starr is trying to put more money than they would get out of it. That CV Starr wants to build on an addition and the plans that they submitted were incorrect. After going to this meeting it showed me why it takes so long to get something done in town. If they clean up there comunication thing may happen at a faster

The council meeting began and I was immediately was struck by the many different individuals in attendance from all walks of life. While almost everyone in the building was there for a specific reason or issue, there was one tie to everyone: Money and the local economy. The Firefighters from the city of Huntsville were in attendance protesting the projected budget and their cut of that. A worker from the Mental Hospital in Huntsville gave a very logical plea to the Council about that funding of the mental institution. Many issues made…

They were going to have a resolution but since one of the council members were questioning it they decided to do a public hearing before they make the resolution. When I was at the meeting someone said we don’t live in New York City we live in Elma, IA and we should be able to have chickens in…

Also, that is why the training and guidelines/procedures are so strict. Firefighter training and academy mimics how the military trains our soldiers. How tough and strict they are about every little detail and especially safety. The training physically and mentally is one of the most challenging things you will have to endure. From the physical work out every day to the mental studies you have to do and the practices you have to learn to keep with the times. Especially, on your probationary period, this is a big factor, you have to be the one doing anything and everything perfectly. However, once you become a firefighter and off probationary, you still don’t stop evolving. Although, there is nothing more rewarding, from the great pay, benefits and retirement plan. Also, knowing that you can help the community and civilians around you, knowing that you can protect them and help them if needed. Firefighting g is a full-time job even when you’re off the clock. You are always being looked at and you always might need to step in and help someone. This is the main reason why this is a challenging job, it never…

My RCS Capstone Experience challenged me by forcing me to speak infront of a large group of people, who have had more years of experience than I have. Also a physical challenge for I had to develope my upper body strength for the training I had to endure. Both of these things pushed me out of my confort zone, but in the long run I know they will be valuable skills for the future. I have been a volunteer at Jacobs Creek Fire Department for three years, but even with these years there is still always room for improvement. This topic is important to me because the people in my station are like family to me. I know even on my worst of days that they will always have your back. In addition being in the fire department brought me and my dad closer,…

The city council meeting could have been interesting if it hadn't dragged on for so long. At first I wasn't sure of what was going on because I couldn't find where they were at on the agenda. I finally found my place when they were doing the announcements and presentations. This part of the meeting took the most time, but I guess it was the most important. They gave six different presentations. The first was a proclamation in recognition of Business Appreciation Week. Four people went up on stage to accept the proclamation and the Pres./ CEO gave a speech. Next was the presentation of a certificate in recognition for Costco Wholesale. The received the BRACE award for "Retail Business of the Year." Dr. Min-Lee Cheng then went up to accept a Proclamation in recognition of "Mosquito and Vector Control and West Nile Virus Awareness Week.…

As a firefighter i would respond to many different types of calls. I would run on DV call to fire calls. On the EMT calls i would just be there as extra hands if they need them. I would also run on fire calls and what I did on those calls depended on what was coming and who we had. Sometimes i would be on the attack crew and once we made entry we would radio back to the incident commander and tell them what we saw and could use. Other times I would be on the mop up crew and what they do is go around and make sure the initial attack crew didn't leave anything…
