Grade 9 Representative Speeches Essay
Greatness is what comes from change. And leadership comes from those who seek to help and lead.
Good Morning, staff, teachers and fellow grade 9s. I am here today as Emily, the candidate running for Grade 9 Representative. But most times I am just Emily the student who is just another classmate, friend or stranger. We have arrived at a time where we need to find a person to represent the Grade 9 students of Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School. This could be a time of change. This could be a time of popularity. But the constant is that what every person we choose, will be the person who will speak on behalf of all of us.

The chilly mornings when I step out to reach a new page of my high school story. I often wonder what type of character

Orientation day. That day we knew no-one but our friends. Feeling nervous, excited at the same time. Though all you wanted to do was going home to rest and spending the summer days away. For some reason, you force yourself to change your ways. Or the times in Trudeaumania where we … Since change is what creates opportunities for something great. Change is scary. Believe me I know the feeling. But if I stood here today refusing to talk would you say that I was a good leader if I did not believe I could try.

The quote “Do what is right, not what is easy” by a person who knows no boundaries. As students of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, we strive to work hard everyday. Because we are students of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, we choose to promote equity. Doing the extra today for what is beneficial for us tomorrow. Today is also the day where we choose a leader that will create more leaders, not followers.

In conclusion, choosing a leader to represent a voice of over 200 people is not easy. But choosing one that will lead change and equity is harder. Outstanding leaders are often those who display distinguishing charactoristics of true statesmanship. They are not people who are arrogant enough to believe that they know everything about any one subject but instead, are humble and studious. Great leaders set clear cut and realistic goals. They are the kind of people who can see the big picture and scope out a path to get there, never waivering, with great confidence, they lead the way. They are not always the charming type but instead have a way about them of convincing others to join them or to understand their philosophy of the given situation. They are often likeable and seemingly outgoing. Usually great orators, however, not always the perfect writers, such as George Washington and not always with a loud enough voice, such as Patrick Henry.…

“Real leadership is leaders recognizing that they serve the people that they lead.” This quote, spoken by Pete Hoekstra, speaks volumes to the true essence of what it means to be a leader. Leadership is all about the people. Many people incorrectly assume that being a leader means that the people you lead are there to serve you. This presumption could not be more inaccurate. Being a leader means serving your teammates and being worthy of their respect and cooperation. I believe that Hoekstra’s quote applies to all forms of leadership- from being a captain of a sports team to being a Lead Scholar.…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

It seems almost impossible to imagine that this type of autocratic, dictatorial control typified those who were considered the leaders at the beginning of the 20th century. Fortunately, due in large part to the demise of authoritarian dictators such as Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler and despotic regimes such as of Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gadhafi, Manuel Noriega this leadership style on a…

There are many different opinions on how a person becomes a great leader. One view is that leaders are born. They are gifted with the ability to be natural role-models and have the capability to cause others to want to follow them. Another view is that there is no way a person is just born with leadership ability. Instead, people learn from others and develop leadership abilities through trial and error. The most sensible view, however, is leaders are a combination of the two, they are both born with a leadership mentality and have also learned, from other great leaders, skills which they use to become a great leader. In addition, great leaders must have the desire to want to leader others. It is not reasonable to believe that a great leader can not have both some innate abilities as well as some sound training in leadership.…

I've always trusted that great leaders bred, not born. Leadership is a quality where a person stands out and take the responsibility not only for himself/herself but for the others and bring positive energy for others. The situation of my speech came up from the book that I read ‘The Last Lecture’ which is based on a speech delivered by Randy Pausch addressing a group of adults titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams’ a few months before his death. This gave me the inspiration to write and address a speech as a renowned philosopher who fought cancer to all the students of Howard University. These brilliant students are putting in all their efforts and are working tirelessly into becoming capable of making a good amount of money. Their aspiration is to have a luxurious life and to afford or meet all their demands and desires. However, they do not realize that there is more to life than just mechanical routine and materialistic happiness. The purpose of this speech is to make these young adults realize the purpose of life, the way to life live, living ones dream, true happiness and the power of perseverance. This speech is also inspired by the commencement speech of J.K. Rowling to a group of graduate wherein humor, reference to personal experience and change in expression are the tools used to communicate an impactful message. That speech of hers created a huge impact on the thoughts of the audience. Some of these aspects such as syntax will be seen in this speech of mine. The use of powerful quotes and phrases, positive diction as well as analogies will also be incorporated in the speech of mine as done in Randy Pausch’s speech making it so inspiring and remarkable. According to me, speech is one form of expression wherein the speaker can actually relate to the people, involve the audience, maintain eye contact with them and manipulate their thoughts by the use of appropriate diction, tone and expressions. It is one of the most influential and persuasive form of expression.…
