Grade Twelve
I believe that education is very important, and a blessing to have in life. Growing up, I was always told by my family to study hard. I did not know what they truly meant until I was in grade twelve. I realized that studying hard will help to have good grades. Having good grades will lead me to attending a university. I was very stressed in my last year of high school because I wanted to prove to my family that I am smarter than what they believed. I did not receive honor roll when I was in grade nine, ten or eleven. Grade twelve was the year where I finally knew how to study. Funny, right? Throughout my years in high school, I struggled to study because I did not know how to, and I did not have any motivation. My goal in grade twelve was to …show more content…
My mom told me to stay in the program, so I did. I realized a month into my program that I was not motivated to attend class, study for tests, and to try to make friends. I was jealous of my boyfriend because he was enjoying university and it made me feel left out. I realized that I was not doing well in accounting and math. I was failing and if I continued to stay in the program, I would have had to re take the course. Knowing myself, I would have failed again because I do not have any interest in math. From that moment, I knew that I wanted to drop out of my program. I did not take University English and data management because I thought that I would not do well in those classes. After a week of attending adult school, I have noticed that people, who are much older than I am, still want to pursue their dream in attending college/university. I met a friend on the first day and she is twenty seven years old. She has a baby, but wants to upgrade her courses so she can go to post-secondary for nursing. Unfortunately, she received a seventy percent in bio, but needed a high

This quote changed my thinking about education, unfortunately it wasn’t until I was an adult that I considered it. From the beginning I never gave school much thought. It was a musty place I was forced to go. Granted I never stayed in one school for long, they were all the same. Mean snot nosed children, & educators thought of me as a ghost that would soon move on. You see school wasn’t a tool to aquire knowledge, it was my super power to aquire approval or the attention I craved so badly from whomever was assigned to be my caretaker at that point.…

Education can be taken in many different perspectives. Not having enough education can affect the rest of your life but also your future family. Many people have amazing opportunities to get degrees in some point of their lives, but they are not committed to achieve that goal or simply they don’t have enough money to pay for college. Some parents are against how the society deals with education while others agree and support their decisions. Parents can educate their children their own way, but it is also important to let the child have a chance in society. To let the child go to school and teach them the tools necessary to succeed and be able to fight for themselves when they are older. Which will give them the opportunity to compete for a job.…

Education is important to me because it is the key to freedom, key to having a better world, and the key to enlightening oneself. Education brings freedom to any individual mind who is trap from the cruel circumstances a person faces. The best example is Fredrick Douglas who used education to escape slavery. Education can make the world a better place to live in, which it can bring an end to poverty, end to racism, end of wars, and end life threating diseases. Finally but yet importantly, education can enlighten a person from creating new ideas or inventions the world has never seen before.…

I know that good grades are not everything because if I forget all of the information from the school year, all I will have to show for my high school career is a bunch of arbitrary numbers, however high they might be. I also continue to do learn, even when it may be difficult. This fall, a car ran into my house, destroying a room where I do most of my schoolwork. I obviously could not hand in the destroyed work, but I still made up all of my lost work in a timely manner and did not let my grades suffer. My passion for knowledge also extends outside of school.…

It came to a point in my life where I needed to make a decision about where I was going to be in the future and how I was planning to get there. After researching several different options I found the appropriate and most beneficial one would be to return to college. As an adult student I had numerous responsibilities to consider when making that decision. They included having children in college, work, and maintaining the household. The time and commitment needed to complete a degree program and balance these responsibilities can be a challenge. Just the thought of returning to the classroom after so many years gave me that feeling of anxiety and panic. There were so many thoughts crossing my mind, the scariest one being my age. Knowing the majority of my classmates was going to be less than half my age made me feel out of place before I even started. With that fear and so many others still fresh in my mind I began to make the preparations, both mentally and physically, to begin my goal of obtaining a college degree. I needed help; I did not even know where to begin so I started my search for informational resources to guide me through. I came across a book, “The Adult Student’s Guide to Survival and Success” (Siebert and Karr), which turned out to be all the help I needed. Starting with a career and school selection and continuing through the steps of registration, completing the massive amount of paperwork, class scheduling, ordering books, etc. I…

Throughout our lives we have always believed education is the key to knowledge and power. As we progress through life we find ourselves at a vulnerable state in which we begin to question our purpose. We begin high school with the belief that the teachers will guide us and help us attain the knowledge that is required to progress to a college or a university. The students sit in class expecting to be taught in a manner in which they can comprehend and grasp everything that the instructor has to give. But in reality todays educators tend to teach by having students copy down a full board of notes filled with the information that the instructor is supposed to immerse the students into.…

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…

Throughout elementary and middle school, I always thought education wasn’t as important as other things such as the sports I played, hanging out with friends and doing things that I enjoyed.
