I completed the career exploration tool in Week 1 of the class and it gave me an option for a career as a Human Resource Manager. In this field I would be involved in recruiting, hiring, and training of employees. I would work with executive management to develop and implement staffing and compensation plans, and work to attract and retain qualified employees. Oversee training and development initiatives. Manage compensation and benefits structure and provides information to employees. Monitors compliance with employment-related regulations. Implements company policies and deals with staffing or disciplinary issues as needed.…
"The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger shows its readers life through Holden Caulfield's eyes. The readers see his outlook on life, thoughts about people, and ideas about maturity and adulthood. Even though Holden doesn't want to grow up, he still develops maturity through three symbols: the museum, the idea of being "the catcher in the rye," and the carrousel and gold rings.…
Over the past several years I have worked as a substitute at Hindman Elementary. During that time I have filled a variety of positions, giving me the chance to become very well aquatinted with both the staff and the layout of the school. i was given the opportunity to work in the office quite frequently last school year, so much so, that I was given my own log in for the school's Infinite Campus, with limited access. From my substitute experience I know the daily routine of the school and have learned how to do a few things in the office such as, using the intercom, fax, and taking and transferring calls. I consider myself a friendly, hardworking, and trustworthy person. These qualities are desirable for any job, especially those working with…
After having a good standing GPA, my long term goals are to graduate from The College of Sequoias and transfer to California State University, Fresno. There, I hope to find an internship while getting my bachelors degree in social work. I would like to expand my knowledge in my area of study because being a social worker has a lot of different positions you can choose from that range from child welfare and counseling. In the social work field there are many job opportunities. According to the National Association of Social Workers, "Social workers serve individuals, families, and communities. They are managers, supervisors, and administrators. They serve at all levels of government. They are educators. They are therapists and researchers. More and more, they are also elected political leaders and legislators" (socialworkers.org). As you can see this area of study is very broad and can lead to many future careers. I will be able to get the chance to help a troubled teenager by bringing out the best in them. As for myself, I know what it is like to not have that support in school when growing up. I believe I would gain the proper training and education in CSUF to be able to reach my destination. Not only do I want to attend Fresno, but I am going to graduate with a B.A. and Master's Degree in social…

I have enjoyed my major, but I did not have a clear path for after graduation and this program has helped me gain a clear direction. Listening to all the guest speakers we have had over the semester, I realized that every single person mentioned waiting a couple of years before going to graduate school. Furthermore, the graduate school panel we had was by far one of the most useful panels we have had this semester. All three of the panelists took different paths to get to graduate school but they made it very clear that graduate school should be used a tool to enhance a career and improve on skills that could help you go further in a job. Rather than just incurring debt and not using your graduate degree, it is supposed to be a gateway to the next step in our careers – advice that I have found super beneficial. I have decided to wait for graduate school and to build up a couple of years of experience first. I feel like I need some time to figure out what career path I am interested in before I jump into graduate or law…
To say that I dedicated numerous amounts of hours deciphering the purpose of why I’m going to college would be a lie. For years I have always thought that college is somewhere you just go after high school. I believed that it is only somewhere you go to start your career and in turn make a lot of money. In fact, this “purpose” is what has been institutionalized within U.S. citizens under this Capitalist system. We are told to go to college so we can get jobs where we can make money, buy a big house, start a family, and live the lifestyles we have always dreamed of. For a very long time this was my only goal in life: to go to college so I can get a well-paying job to afford the lifestyle that I want to live. I never put much thought into what…
While going to school, I will continue to intern at my agency. By the fall of 2018, I would have interned at the Sacramento Food Bank for one year, then I plan on getting a job within my field. This will allow me to gain experience in the field and working with different populations to find the one I am most passionate about. Having more experience will also allow me to achieve my goal of getting a full time job. Having an entry level job while going to school will also allow me to achieve my financial goals. I won’t fall behind in my tuition very much, and it will also allow me to save…
My education begins with me attending my community college back in Laredo, Texas. In Laredo Community College, I didn’t know which major to go into in all honesty, like all new college students I was caught up with the new experience of college and the scenery the college provided. Then after discussions with my advisors I’ve decided to enter the field of Criminal Justice, which at a time where difficult because I’d needed to know different laws that have changed over the years, many court cases that change our way for society, the functions of the justice system. After graduating community college, I’ve received my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and decided to continue my education at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) for my…
Johann Von Goethe once said “The man who occupies the first place seldom plays the principal part.” This is quite possibly one of the best quotes I have read when talking about what makes a good leader. What Goethe is saying is simply that a leader, or rather a good leader listens to his followers and makes decisions based upon their input and once the decisions have been made, the followers are often the most integral part of executing the decision. To lead the people one must be a part of the people, one must understand the people and what they need to achieve their goals. Leadership, as defined in chapter fourteen of “MGMT What’s Inside”, is the process of influencing others to achieve group or organizational goals. In order for one to influence others, one must be able to connect with others and understand what drives them and how to motivate that drive. The chapter goes on to explain many different theories behind leadership and gives studies to support the best models of leadership depending upon the situation and theory discussed.…
This is an important year in my early college career, because I’ll be taking four college classes. I will grow academically by using my resources wisely. I will be advocating for myself when I need help in a subject. I will be using my time wisely like doing my homework or helping other people.…
Graduation for Fort LeBoeuf senior class is almost here, the stress of last minute decisions on where we want to go to school and constantly being asked what do you want to be when you done with school. I have set many goals for myself as a senior at Fort LeBoeuf for my plans after high school. I plan to attend Edinboro University for four years to major in Social Work and minor in Criminal Justice. I plan to excel in these subjects as my education is important to me. I will work hard and be the best student I can be and take every chance I can get to open doors for the future, and to make these next four years at Edinboro the best years so I can be successful in these fields. At the end of these next four years I plan to graduate and apply…
I want to obtain a graduate degree to accomplish my long-term educational goal that I set for myself when I obtain my undergraduate degree. I want to prove to myself that I can achieve this goal and that anything is possible. Obtaining my graduate degree will also teach my family on how to stay positive and focus and to never be afraid to chase after their dreams if they see me doing it. The career that I have working in the information technology field is a good rewarding career. I then find myself drained out from the hectic work schedule and not enjoying what I do. This is why I am pursing my masters’ degree so that I can move into a new career field; advance my employment opportunities, and financial status. I know a masters’ degree will help me succeed into a position with more leadership, and to provide for my family so that I can help them…
The official title of a writer is an author. Authors write novels, advertisements, scripts, and any other written piece. There are many skills needed to be an author, these skills are needed to be an author, these skills are needed to fulfill their responsibilities. Authors also need some training and education. There are plenty of jobs available, and the amount of money authors receive is decent. Being an author is not easy and takes a lot of work, but many authors say once they finish a task they feel proud.…
Throughout my high school career I have always held a job and have always tried my hardest to help other people in any way possible. In the middle of my freshman year at Haverford High School I received a job at a restaurant called Primavera, here i worked as a hostess two times a week. I later moved on to work at a small business called The Head Nut towards the end of my sophomore year, and have worked there ever since. At The Head Nut I work at least 22 hours per week, this has taught me extremely important lessons about how to manage my school work while still maintaining time for work, family, friends and any other activity I do outside of school. In addition to working so often I have also volunteered several times with my mom at a soup…
