In the video “Grain Brain”, Dr. David Perlmutter directly correlated the elevation of bloos sugar due to the consequences of carbs in the diet, which can lead to dimentia. The carb and CHO can compromise the brain functions. Wheat carbs and sugar are brain's silent killer and have adverse affectt on the function of the brain. He declared that gluten and wheat products threatens the human physiology. According to the research result; fasting sugar of the group of people were measured and they were followed for years even an added sugar of 105 translated into significant risk of developing dimentia. He recommended people to adopt low carb and high fat diet; since good fat is good for th brain. It is also good for the immune, heart and brain. Carbs with the protein leads to inflammation and production of chemicals called free radicals that leads to the death of the brain cells.

Ancel Key published the study to compare hear disease and fat consumption, he found that fat intake is associated with heart disease. He collected data from 22 countries and published only those that fits his hypothesis. He stated that eating fat leads to high cholesterol in blood, which in turns cause heart disease. But further research on his study declared his results wrong.     Although short, it provides relevant information useful for the essay. The article is posted on the site Livestrong.com and the article itself is plagued by advertisements centred on reducing body fat, but they don’t appear to be trying to sell you anything. The site itself is a direct affiliate of the Livestrong Foundation, which is a registered foundation raising money for cancer survivors. The site mainly focuses on articles for well-being and health. This article appears to have a bias towards the emphasis on how sugar metabolism results in fat. The author of the articles, Allison Adams, is credible enough to write this as she has been a registered dietician since 1996. It could also be outdated information as it was written in 2011 and new medical discoveries have been made since then, making this a weakness of the site. The information does corroborate with other data found on other sites though, so the article is still reliable to a degree.     Americans dietary habitats have been under close criticism, and media coverage has been very prominent in this critique, analyzing the way in which Americans have been eating. Through examples that stretch from nutritionists’ opinions to food labels our perceptions of good dietary habits have been largely skewed. The Food and Drug Administration has not been warning the public sufficiently about the harmful affects of the foods we consume. One of the most prominent, controversial, substances is sugar, which is also known as sucrose and fructose. The body only requires small quantities of micronutrients and without them serious problems can arise.     In the book, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, author Michael Pollan commences his tale with a few straightforward words: “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants”. In his introduction, An Eater’s Manifesto, Pollan discusses how the dietetic wisdom that was passed down from older generations has been heavily tainted by “nutritional science and food industry marketing” (Pollan, 2008). The first volume of the book entitled, The Age of Nutritionism”, delves into this problem and helps uncover the cause of today’s “nutritional confusion and anxiety” (Pollan, 2008). Nowadays, it is not uncommon to have “edible foodlike substances” displayed in every aisle of the grocery store with all products promoting some kind of nutritional benefit from their consumption. These dietary facts are often modified to showcase dietary benefits that are barely present in the food product, if present at all. With such prevalent misinformation, today’s society has become so overly concerned with nutrient enriched food that people have either forgotten or are unaware of the importance of the fundamentals. Pollan further explains that humanity has become “a nation of orthorexics” meaning that people have developed “an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating” centred on the theory of nutritionism (Pollan, 2008). Chronic diseases that have the highest death rate such as obesity, coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer, can be attributed to the “Western diet” which consists of “highly processed foods and refined grains; the use of chemicals to raise plants and animals in huge monocultures; the superabundance of cheap calories of sugar and fat produced by modern agriculture; and the narrowing of the biological diversity of the human diet to a tiny handful of staple crops, notably wheat, corn, and soy” (Pollan, 2008).
