In order to control their populace and prevent invasions by nomadic people, the roman and Han empires developed powerful militaries and elaborate infrastructures. The roman army was known for its power and strength throughout the Mediterranean world due to their organization, training, and advanced weaponry. Roman roads, which were paved with stone, were at the heart of the roman infracstructure and allowed the roman army to quickly put down and rebellion and stop the invasions from the Germanic barbarians. The Han dynasty developed a powerful military to enforce the Mandate of Heaven and stop the constant nomadic invasions from the Huns in the north. Infrastructure in China was extensive and the size of the Great Wall demonstrated the strength of the Chinese military, intimidated the Chinese peasants, and slowed the invasions from the north. Both imperial rome and the Han dynasty spent a tremendous amount of their tax revenue on developing an extensive infrastructure to control their empire and fend off nomadic invasions. In the same way that the roman roads were used to enforce the political control of the roman emperor, the Great Wall of china was used to remind the peasants of the strength of the Chinese emperor and his connection to the heavens. Political control was accomplished in imperial roman and the Han dynasty through militaries that could control the peasants and protect the…
One cannot celebrate a man who left so little impact on the world. Have you ever heard the name Zheng He? Likely not, and with good reason. Zheng He was born Ma He, in a muslim village in southwestern China. Ma was captured during a northern chinese raid, and was forced to watch his father’s execution. He was taken shortly after, and was forced to become a eunuch under the new name Zheng He and serve the staff of the royal family. Zheng He quickly gained the trust of the emperor at the time, and rose the ranks and became a military general and advisor to the emperor. The emperor eventually gave him the task of commanding a fleet of ships down the coast of China all the way to India. Including the first, Zheng He made seven voyages total. In…
The Great Wall was first built by the Qin Dynasty and Han dynasty for protection but however the benefits do not outweigh the cost. For example ,in Document C it state that they lost many citizens so. This shows that how it supports my claim because it talks about how this was worse than the benefit. To add on in Document B it stated how they still have to pay the mongols even though they had the Great Wall. This also shows how the cost did not outweigh the costs because they still were insecure even though they had a Wall for…

Technology is the building block of any society: it allows for new advancements to be made that improve daily life. Two such societies that made advancements in technology included the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. As the expansion of the empire increased, the Romans built roads that linked these regions together. These roads were built in such a way that allowed for easier travel: roads were paved and allowed for water to run off. In addition, the empire also developed the transportation of water throughout the city through the construction of aqueducts, which were canals. Likewise, the Han Dynasty made advancements in the distribution of water: there were water ways, canals, and pools that were inspected by hydraulic engineers. Water was also used to power a blowing-engine. Because of the advancements that were made, the Han Dynasty is regarded by historians as the “Golden Age.” Similarly, the Romans created a large empire that stretched from Europe to the Middle East. Because of the vastness of both empires, water and technology were heavily relied upon, yet unlike the Han officials, the upper-class Romans had a negative attitude towards technology.…
