She is talking about men buying something for women, but I would like to make a correction by stating that generosity is a characteristic that should be developed by both. Men don't always have to buy us women things to symbolize their feelings. A gesture isn't always made through money, it is a special detail that can be given with no preference of what sex provides it. For example, my family lives with an economical crisis at hand. My stepmother doesn't have to buy my father anything in order to show him generosity. By a single fragment dictated by her heart, through a warmth hug, or by a simple kiss, she transmits her feelings; and the greatest gift is not one you can buy, but those that are created by the…

In this part of the essay I can see the relationship that developed between Leopold and the Oak tree. Leopold believes this tree and all other Oaks are special because they has beat all the odds he states, “Only one acorn in a thousand ever grew large enough to fight rabbits; the rest were drowned at birth in the prairie sea” (8). This section stood out to me because trees seem like a very common occurrence. I see them every day. It never occurred to me that they fight to live and to grow. When Leopold learns of the death this tree he and his fellow woodsmen mourn the loss as if it were a person (9). Leopold knows this tree has lived through a lifetime of experiences. Leopold states, “Fragrant little chips of history spewed from the saw cut, and accumulated on the snow before each kneeling sawyer (9, 10). To Leopold trees are history. Ever since I was a child I always regarded Earth and its nature as a museum. All the trees I saw as a little kid were there long before I was and will be there long after I am gone. Reading the essay “Good Oak” confirmed my belief about the connection between history and…

The tree is therefore personified as a woman in the story as she exhibits characteristics of the "maternal instinct" and though she did not give birth to the boy she takes him in as if she had.

One of the main messages portrayed in the story is that unselfish everlasting love ultimately has the greatest effect on the lover not the one being loved. The mother figure/tree was deeply wounded in the long run as every time the boy came for something more, she would have to sacrifice a part of her body to make him happy or satisfy him. Psychologist Barbara Frederickson offers a psychosocial theory on the concept of everlasting love. She describes that it does not exist and ultimately any connects a human being engages in is true love if those engaging in the scene are both portraying strong positive emotions. Taking this theory as fact, it leads to a counterargument on whether or not the tree truly loved the boy or felt obligated to show feelings towards him. Either way, she along the journey of her life loved more than the boy but ultimately ended up sacrificing everything for him, once again portraying that maternal instinct.

 There was also a metaphor…

“Our Christmas tree was never even an inch under eight feet, and it took the whole family hours to decorate it. Each year one of us was honored by being allowed to place the angel at the top of the tree, while Father help us up in his strong arms.” (Pelzer 22). This passage is a simile because this is how we are in Christmas, our tree would be long and it takes us a whole hour to decorate it. We are allowed to place the star on top of the tree, and that is what’s amazing about it. This brought my attention and interested me because it showed how good the mother was to her children and hoe kind she treated them, because the name of the chapter called Good Times. It also shows that the kid remember how good she was and then how she turned…

The author sits underneath the “branches of a yellowish sycamore.” He exhibits that just as Eve approaches the tree to decide to sin and partake of the fruit, Gary Soto lets the aspiration of wonder affect his actions as he cowardly approaches the tree to partake in his pie. He associates his immorality with stories from the Bible. Soto reveals this by using allusion. The author is worried that “Eve got in deep trouble with snakes, and yet “that didn’t stop me from clawing a chunk from the pie tin and pushing it into the cavern of my mouth.” Adam and Eve did not want the apple for its taste. They were drawn to the fact that it was forbidden. Gary Soto is also mesmerized at the immorality of the prohibited and comes to the conclusion “that the best things in life came…

Before his incident at the tree, Finny was a sports all star. He was gifted with superior sports skills; this was shown when he beat the school swimming record without ever having practiced at all. Once the fall occurred, Finny’s life was changed forever. “Sports are finished for him [Finny], after an accident like that. Of course. . . . If I [Stanpole] had the slightest hope that he could do more than walk I’d be all for trying for everything. There is no such hope” (55). Finny’s life revolved around sports, and once the accident occurred, his life was over. To Finny, the tree represented loss, sadness, and eventually death. As shown in the book, A Separate Peace, the tree plays a very important role in the lives of both Gene and Finny, the two main characters. The tree symbolizes the tree of the knowledge of good and evil from the Bible, it represents fear, hatred, and jealousy to Gene, and it also represents loss and sadness to…

“The Black Walnut Tree” Analysis “Two women trying in a difficult time to be wise” describes up the speaker and her mother’s conflicted feelings regarding the future of the tree in their backyard. In “The Black Walnut Tree” by Mary Oliver, the author uses shifts and word choice and imagery to expose the frustrating, but meaningful connection the women have with the family tree. While the tree burdens the women, they must come to terms that the tree represents the importance of family over the opportunity for money. Both women are conflicted over whether or not to rid themselves of a tree in their yard. The women want to get rid of the walnut tree because its destruction possesses the ability to pay off their debt.…

Generosity is the virtue of not being tied down by concerns of one’s possessions and giving away those possessions without expecting anything in return. The stories, “Day 10, Story 3” and “Day 10, Story 4” from The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio are splendid examples of generosity that express the values and different aspects of generosity. Both Nathan from “Day 10, Story 3” and Gentile from “Day 10, Story 4” are generous, however Nathan’s the actions that Nathan takes make Nathan more generous. Nathan’s and Gentile’s generosity is illustrated through the intentions associated with their actions, the manner by which they express their generosity, and the results that they obtain because of their generosity.…

While Amir and Hassan were young and lighthearted and as close as a servant and master can be, they inscribe their names in the tree, and it bears fruit. The tree not only symbolizes a uniting strength between Amir and Hassan but also serves as a source of detachment. In the article “Is Regifting Rude?” there are two contrasting points which both brings out reasonable statements. For instance> the author is right when he states that regifting can be hurtful to the original gift giver because once someone decides to make you a gift it’s because you mean something important to him/her, he/she cares about you no matter what the physical value of presents may be. It’s unfair taking a present you received with so much love and give it to someone else because you don’t need it or like it.…

Imagine a world without color, pain, or feelings. It sounds terrible. The Giver is a book about a community that people in the community do not have to be worry about anything. In other words, they never experience the joy of life and success. Jonas’ community is a strict community to avoid negative emotions. However (TRANS), there are many things that citizens are not allowed to do by themselves. The purpose of this paragraph is to contrast the Jonas’ community to our community. First of all, in Jonas’ community everyone lives by the community’s rules. It means their food, their family, their decisions are chosen for them because they are under the community’s control. However, in our community people can make their own decisions and choose their favorite food to eat. Second, in Jonas’s community the Elders control the population. It means that kids are not raised in a house. They are raised in a center for a year and will be given to family, but (TRANS) the Elders are the ones to decide who can be assigned to care for children. However, in our community people have their own children and it does not matter how many children they want to have (INF). Another difference is that when they turn twelve, the children are given a job assignment and start training (GER) for their job, and after that, they work more till they become a responsible adult. By way of contrast, in our community people can start working (GER) whenever they want, and they might want to work (INF) less when they get older (COMP). In conclusion, we would realize that our decisions, emotions, and differences might make our life harder (COMP), so it would be great to be happy with the present life. Never make your life as same as (COMP) Jonas’ community because you are never going to feel the life. A world without color, pain, or feelings should be a destination you would never…

It was ironic to see a man who must have possessed such control be belittled to a mere homeless person. As I pondered what to do, I remembered the sandwich I was carrying. Many people do not realize the importance of giving and often forget that charity is more than performing good acts in a community; it builds one’s own sense of purpose. It allows for a sense of fulfillment. Unfortunately, due to this lack of understanding of such an important task, a term known as “incentive” was created. During an English exam, an essay topic asked students to explain their personal feelings about being influenced by incentives to participate in charity. I found this task most difficult because I lacked personal experience of such “incentives” to draw from. Although was not naïve i n such instances occurring, I was flabbergasted as to why one would accept a “bribe” or even propose such a monstrous idea in order to complete a task of charity. I then came to the realization, if people felt it necessary to resort to such underhanded methods, then it could not and cannot be perceived as truly giving. In my life, I have come to learn that giving means to give without expecting to receive. It is the ability to sacrifice something of yourself in order to serve a purpose or to finish a mission for the greater good. After all, how can one truly give whole heartedly yet demand something in return? In an essay by Jennifer Price “A…

At least, while the little single orange was always good and useful for others, we the human being must try to good for others. In this essay, Milne gives us an example. A peach is a fruit that is very difficult to take care. By using this simple sentence, he tries to teach us that as we are in this world, we must control and take care ourselves and not to be difficult in a bad place or in a hardship. If the world is not easy to take care, we must try to keep wisdom.…
