Greek Fraternity Housing in Chicago Greek life has had a life changing impact on my life and the life of many collegiate students around the country. Groups of women and men congregate for a higher cause and volunteer for their community and school. This is Greek life at most colleges and universities. One particular aspect of Greek life involves housing. If you were to travel to most larger universities, you would almost immediately notice the rows of fraternity and sorority houses next to campus. This is a very common sight to see, but Chicago is one of many cities that is an exception to Greek housing. Fraternity and sorority houses provide living accommodations for their members and also serves as the organizational headquarters for the fraternity. There are many pros and cons to official Greek housing. There are many beneficial reasons for having the official housing such as providing a location for fraternities and sororities to organize to provide volunteer services and philanthropy events. On the other hand, there are also parties that disrupt the neighborhood and surroundings. Chicago is one of the larger cities that has enacted strict rules on Greek housing. This has caused many problems for fraternities and sororities that have been established in Chicago. Chicago is compromised of many diverse neighborhoods that are home to many different Chicago colleges and universities. Throughout Cook County, there are many different schools each with different housing regulations from their respected neighborhood. Northwestern University is a great example for how Cook County has diverse housing laws. Northwestern University is located in Evanston, Illinois, which is not Chicago but is still Cook County. At Northwestern, the fraternities and sororities are allowed to have official housing and even have a Greek housing row such as other state schools.
