Green Man Flashing Case Study
Page 1:
Introduction:
I will be discussing the processes I would have had to go through in order to stage the production of Green Man Flashing in the Hexagon Theatre if I was the hypothetical Production Manager. I will be using what I have learnt throughout the semester about the technical aspects of theatre as well as various other source materials. I will be referring to the actual production.

Production Manager Job Description:
What exactly is a Production Manager (PD)? Also referred to as Theatre or Stage Production Managers. The Production Manager is responsible for the actualization of the director’s vision for the production and forming a production team capable of doing so. I basically have to manage people and objects. In large productions the Production Manager can hire a Technical Director (TD) and/or Stage Manager (SM) in order to delegate responsibilities to them. However, for a fairly small production such as Green Man Flashing (five actors) I would assume the Production Manager would take on the responsibilities of two positions or even all three. The duties

It is my duty to ensure that all the technical and creative elements (set, props and costume) are functioning properly and to fix it if it is not. I have to make sure that there is a working backstage light so that the backstage is easier to navigate and people can avoid accidents. If any minor accidents do occur it is up to me to provide a basic first aid kit. As the bridge of communication I have to notify designers and crafts people of any changes made during the rehearsal phase. I have to recruit electricians, sound operators as well as other tech personnel and supervise the building of the set, hanging and focusing of the lights, sound system set up and the like. I must ensure that all the props and costumes are where they need to be and note their positions/whereabouts in a

I must be able to shape, interpret and use the elements of drama to create particular effects for an audience. To enhance conflict I decided to place Ruby and Ray upstage so that they have a closer proximity with the audience. I decided to create many pauses between Sylvie and Ray’s dialogue to redefine the conflict. For example when Sylvie says, ‘Ray…? Where’s Ruby?’ and Ray responds with, ‘I don’t know, Sylvie! I don’t know!’ I decided to place the actors so that they’re facing each other with a pause after Ray’s dialogue to show the climatic moment. I decided for Sylvie to imagine the mannequin of Ruby is outside the front under the street lamp so she is looking out into the audience enhancing the conflict revolving around the missing mannequin which she says. ‘The mannequin! She’s not under the street lamp. Somebody’s taken her. Who could be that cruel?’ Sylvie is looking out frantically into the audience making the audience feel uncomfortable and uneasy enhancing the conflict of this missing mannequin. One last way in which conflict is shown is through the body part of Ruby being sent in a parcel and how they don’t know the answers to who sent it and why and how it event got there reinforcing the invasion of a safe neighbourhood.
