it didn't have a lot of sexually saying in the movie like the first one. In beginning of the movie the king has a little part having fun, they played loud music singing laughing so hard and just enjoying the time. This monstrous beast grendel hates loud noise so he appears because of all the noise they were making, so he killed a lot of the king's men.they were frightened all the time and would seek new brave men to kill grendel for all his killing he has done. And of course beowulf heard and came to help them. He talked to the king and got the job. This all accurate to the book some little twist and turns. So on the day when grendel and beowulf battle. Beowulf has plan and he lays down with weapon and asks his and the king's men to start making loud noises so the all start to sing . So the are all singing loud except beowulf he is laying down, waiting for grendel to come. Which is also true in the book.when grendel came to stop the noise beowulf grabbed a chain and wiped it around his arm to stop him from leaving, grendel almost got away he's half in the door and the room they were in. then beowulf smashed his hands repeatedly until his arm came off and grendel ran away. This is all false except the part where beowulf goes after him to his cave behind the waterfall but in this movie it just a cave. Further on in this movie beowulf goes to the cave with a golden blow horn that lit up a little in …show more content…

The setting of the battle against Grendel’s mother and the battle against the Dragon, in the movie detracts from my understanding of the poem. When Beowulf went to face Grendel’s mother in the poem, the lair was described as a place where even a “deer hunted through the woods by a pack of hounds, a stag with great horns…prefers to die on those shores.”(Beowulf 433) instead of going into the lake. Alternatively the movie depicts the lair as a difficult place to reach, but not impossible, it appears to be less scary than that of the poem. Throughout the battle against the Dragon, ‘Beowulf’s son,’ the setting is Grendel’s mother’s lair. In the poem, the battle took place in a different place, on the contrary in the movie, it was fought in the same place where Beowulf went to talk to Grendel’s mother. The characters, the sequence of events, along with the certitude behind Grendel’s progenitor and the background of the movie lessen my original comprehension of the…

As Grendel proceeded to the meet hall, he saw all of the soldiers resting in one, laughing he decided to feast on one body and wait until the next day to attack fully. When he does prepare to fight Beowulf, he expected a fast and easy win. What he didn't expect was a harsh, and long battle. The movie basically told us the opposite of what was true about him. We would have never known this stuff if the author wouldn’t have written in the stream of consciousness. Grendel had many feelings that we did not know about in Beowulf that we learned about in the book. In the movie we got the idea that he was a horrible monster who didn’t care about anything or anyone. Beowulf told the story from the dans point of view not Grendel’s. So by John Gardner choosing to use stream of consciousness we really saw who Grendel was. Grendel seems way more human in the book rather than the movie. “I laughed my ankle was numb; my leg was on fire to the hip” (page 21). Only a real human could feel pain and sorrow like…

Beowulf is the main character in his own Epic, with Grendel being the first obstacle to overpower. A Simple description for a simple book. For this reason Grendel is a cliché character that the readers will dismiss with hast; Grendel is a straightforward, but horrifying, monster. “So mankind's enemy continued his crimes, Killing as often as he could, coming Alone, bloodthirsty and horrible” (79-81). Grendel is not as plain in Grendel the novel, he is every bit as gory though. “I lift her by the armpits as though she was a child and, gently, I set her aside” (147). This tells a many great things, first is Grendel’s…

Several differences can be seen throughout the old-English Beowulf (Heaney) and the modern-day film Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson) due to the cultural difference between the Middle ages and Modern time. More details entered the film to appeal to a more modern audience that requires reason and details. The old English poem held no use for complexity to tantalize the reader. Additions that add complexity to Grendel’s character in Beowulf and Grendel include backstories and new characters.…

Grendel was descendent of Cain, who heartlessly murdered innocent Danes because he felt shame for himself. When he heard of the Dane’s problem, Beowulf quickly left to go help the Danish. Although he did have backup, he started a battle with Grendel and chose to do this with no armor or weapons. Nevertheless, Beowulf would still be crowned the winner, as the arm of Grendel would symbolize his trophy. Beowulf would continue to attempt to kill Grendel’s bitter mother and a dragon, who thought the Geats had gone against him. The victory with the dragon would prove to be his last, as it took a lot out of him.…

Grendel represents the Anglo-Saxons’ greatest fears of being destroyed and forgotten forever. And while today, we are better able to protect ourselves physically from outside terror, the fearful destruction he represents is still present. Grendel, Cain’s descendant, begins his nighttime assault on Heorot hall. He heartlessly kills and often eats the sleeping Anglo-Saxons. The poet recalls this terrible time for the Danes:…

Beowulf is a very courageous character and recounts his acts of courage to every person who will listen. In the poem Beowulf tells of his previous courageous actions in destroying a tribe of giants, defeating sea monsters in the night and returning from battle covered in his enemies blood. Beowulf has come to King Hrothgar to fight an ogre. A monster that has brought misery and death to the Danes for many years. This ogre, Grendel, killed thirty of Hrothgar’s men and caused the great mead hall of Herot to be closed. Beowulf tells King Hrothgar “the monster’s scorn of men Is so great that he needs no weapons and fears none. Nor will I” (lines 262-264) Therefore Beowulf intends to fight the Grendel without his armor or his sword. Beowulf may be so courageous because he believes so strongly in fate shaping his successes in the past. Beowulf believes that if it is his fate to win against Grendel then he will win. If it is his fate to die…

The first of his three major battles was Grendel, a beast who ventured into Heorot (the Danish mead hall) and swept up all the drunken men for a feast. Hearing of this monster Beowulf set sail from Sweden to Denmark to face Grendel. Before the battle he and his men only had one drink to ensure they had their wits about them. Then later in the night they lay waiting for the beast to appear acting as if they were drunk and unconscious. Grendel burst through the large metal doors. The stench of so many of the dead choking the air, looks around and finds his first target, one of Beowulf’s men. He snatches him up, bites his head off and proceeds to drink him like a juicy-juice before consuming him whole. His next victim wouldn’t be taken so easily though. The foolish Grendel grabs at Beowulf who is waiting patiently for the beast. Beowulf then grabs onto Grendel’s arm and proceeds to tear it clean off at the shoulder. Scared Grendel runs with his tail between his legs back to the hellish pit he calls home where he dies before his own mother.…

In the end of the movie Beowulf dies trying to save the Danes from his son. The movie portrays that Beowulf was the cause for his own demise in the end. Beowulf made the same mistakes that king Hrothgar made and ultimately suffered the same consequences. The book doesn’t elaborate on the ending like the movie does. In the book he just dies by some dragon but in the movie more meaning is put behind the story. Which makes the movie more interesting.…
