GROUP DEVELOPMENT
The process of developing groups depends significantly on the type of group and the specific purposes to be achieved. The various models of group development are (Zastrow 2009):
1. Sequential Stage Model
The Garland, Jones, and Kolodny Model
Tuckman Model
The Northern and Kurland Model
2. Recurring-phase Model
The Bales Model
For the movie “Chak De India” none of the sequential stage models suit completely. It is in accordance with the recurring-phase model since all the issues of a particular stage are never completely resolve and tend to recur later. However, we shall give excerpts from the movie for various stages of group development through Tuckman model:
1. Forming
Members become oriented towards each other and try to determine their place in the team.

2. Storming

Every morning 4 km jogging and the rigorous practice all day long.
Bindia Naik adamant on playing in the forward line.
Unhealthy competitive attitude of Komal Chautala towards Preeti Sabarwal.
Quarrel between Molly and Aliya in the field.
Coach giving negative remark on every player and commenting harshly on their play.
Team denial to practice with the coach Kabir Khan as he was too strict.
3. Norming
Establishment of mutual understanding and cohesiveness between the group members
