In comparison to other meetings that I have attended with other groups or associations, it was nice to see that the tables were intermingled with different nurses and there was little hierarchy that could be seen amongst group members. Registered nurses often graduate with the training to become leaders, although they may need experience, their education provides a foundation for them to achieve management skills for their vocation (Huston, 2017). As beginner nurses, their older counterparts provide the means necessary for them to practice leadership and become nurse leaders through mentoring and guidance (Greenfield, 2015). Mentorship provides new nurses the ability to find new ways to improve their practice while also helping guide them through their careers in order to become future nurse leaders. The event will bring together nurses from all over the Pacific, coming together to discuss research, identify issues in the region, and also create a bond between the nurses of the various Pacific islands. This type of regional collaboration is tantamount as it allows nurses the ability to come together and share the challenges of nursing within the region. As the world begins to become more advanced and communication increases amongst professionals, globalization continues to impact nursing care, this creates the need for nurses to collaborate in order to solve problems outside of their jurisdiction or locality (Grootjans & Newman, 2013). By coming together, nurses can identify problems that may not only affect their area, but also affect the region as a whole and identify ways to mitigate those issues. The Global Advisory Panel on the Future of Nursing, has begun actions to help initiate the changes in nursing due to globalization and improvements through the use of politics and other means (Huston, 2017).
