Gun Control Essay
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has been debated in America for quite a while now. Recent, incidents of shootings across the country, such as, mass shootings at the cinema in Colorado, the Connecticut elementary school shooting or even the recent attacks on police officers in New York have made the argument of gun control a volatile topic of discussion. While some government officials, lobby for stricter gun laws, there are many that are adamant, to the second Amendment, which states “the right of the people to bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Gun control is an effort to reduce crime and murder rates, by strengthening laws on the ownership of firearms.

For instance, federal and state laws prohibit convicted felons and mentally unstable individuals from purchasing guns. Unfortunately, though these laws are not strict enough to stop such individuals from obtaining guns. For example, over the weekend two police officers were shot in Brooklyn by an individual with a lengthy criminal background. It is said that the suspect “blasted away at the officers with a Magnum hand gun.” With incidents like this occurring much too often stricter laws should be implemented so that our communities are safer.
Guns also are also the cause of many accidental deaths in this country. Gun owners should be more responsible, when owning something that can be so dangerous. Many gun owners don’t know how to secure their weapon properly. Hence, kids find their parents guns and accidently shoots themselves or someone else. Many teens and young adults see this as an opportunity to use these dangerous weapons as a way of settling conflicts with peers or foes, they often take their parents’ weapons to school, shooting up the schools causing injuries or even killing other students.
In conclusion, gun control is necessary for a safe place for all. Without gun control laws guns, may get into the wrong hands.
