Guns in Schools
Guns, schools and criminal minds.
Due to a massive shootings events in the last years, we, the people have been wondering "Is it a good idea to have guns in our children's school? I've always believe that schools are the safest places in the world, until December 14, 2012, when 20 years old Adan Lanza fatally shot twenty children and 6 adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Now, do you feel safe when leaving your child at school? and, would you agree in sending your children off to a place full of guns? David Thweatt, superintendent of schools in Harrold, Texas, described how his small rural district implemented a plan to allow some staff members to carry concealed weapons in addition to other security members. Mr. Thweatt emphasizes that they are at least half-hour away from closest law enforcement officials, they believe that they have done everything possible to protect their children. This plan is called "The Guardian Plan". Many people think that the world without guns would be a world at peace, this people claim that they love their children enough to not want them to go to school prisons. Plenty of new issues can emerge while teachers carry guns, who is going to protect them if a teacher lose control? Different opinions say that having an armed staff of educators will only increase the problem, they think that bad people are the problem and government should focus on create better and smarter solutions to keep bad people off to schools. According to teachers, they feel offended when someone scoff the idea of a teacher being trained to use a firearm, they already have much to deal with, such a crowd control, conflict resolution, and maintain order amidst chaos. Unfortunately, Mr. Thweatt's is not very popular on educators… However, a job as a teacher does not require to be armed, they have enough responsibilities to in addition put the weight of carrying a firearm over their shoulders. These money may well be used to buy

Throughout its history, the United States has had a fascination with guns. Americans have used guns in times of war, for protection, and for hunting. Americans also use guns when they are intent on killing people. When violence happens in school shootings, drive-by shootings, assassination of public officials, or in the workplace and shopping malls, Americans demand something be done. This demand fuels the debate between gun rights and gun control activists. It fuels the debate over the interpretation of the Second Amendment. It fuels the debate on allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons in gun-free zones. This makes us ask the question: Should guns be banned from college campuses? Two recent college campus massacres have triggered a renewed interest in this debate. On the morning of April 16, 2007, a deeply troubled young man named Seung Hui Cho used two pistols to murder thirty-two students and faculty members, as well as killing himself, at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia (Feldman 284). The second incident happened on February 14, 2008 at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. The twenty-seven year old gunman, Steven Kazmierczak, walked into a lecture hall with three handguns and a shotgun and fired fifty-four rounds from the weapons. He fatally shot five students and himself and wounded sixteen others (Goldman). These two incidents have brought the gun control vs. the gun rights debate back to the college campuses. The heart of the debate focuses on whether allowing concealed weapons in a college classroom setting can save lives if a similar catastrophe happens again. Activists across the United States are joining forces to make their voices heard. One such group, Students for…

Despite the numerous parents and staff that are in favor of the new transition of teachers with guns there are a few that are not as adaptable with this change as others are. Teachers such as Ms. Moffis that stated, “Traditionally in this area, schools have already been a very safe and welcoming community,” referring to teachers having guns in the classroom, she added, “Nobody’s ever thought about needing that kind of thing at school.” This coming from a town that is well versed in handling guns within their own community and training their children at an early age the proper understanding of firearms.…

He has point that all the school officials are the first responders to the bad situation but they cannot do anything without a gun. Some school districts are allowing the teachers to carry a concealed weapon, where the police station is not close enough for them to respond quickly enough. Schools are just trying to just handle a bad situation until the help arrive. Some of the schools staff said that they would rather attack the intruder rather then let the situation get worse. They forget that if they were to die by the intruders gun, the rest of the people they were suppose to protect are now vulnerable. If a bad situation were to raise the, school staff that is present would be able to control the situation with a gun. The author is trying to support that the teachers should be armed, while he is giving reason why they should not be, like he said that practicing shooting is important, but the school staff might hurt the students they are trying to protect. The schools that are located within one mile of a police station are defenseless for five minutes until the police arrive. The teachers that would be selected to carry a concealed weapon would also put on major responsibilities on…

The New York Times author, Dave Phillips, creates an article titled Grappling with Guns on Campus. Throughout his writing, he states several interviews with people in relation to the school who actively has a problem with or without the concealed carry law in Texas. For example, he writes, “I (Professor Lisa Moore) love what I do. I consider teaching and learning to be a sacred vocation. We want to do everything we can to promote it. I don’t see guns as a part of that. So, no, I won’t be allowing guns in my office.” Professor Moore is strongly against allowing firearms on campus locations, because she believes weapons do not matter when it comes to the subject of schooling. Author Phillips writes again, “It’s not that I’m (Huyler Marsh) afraid of getting attacked all the time. It’s more like a fire extinguisher or a seat belt… If I call 911, it might be ten minutes before they get here.” Despite two opposing viewpoints, it is always better to be safe than sorry, because no one knows what another person will…

First of all, the old-fashioned values and morals we impose on our children today are depleting. The line between being moral and immoral is becoming very blurry. Teachers are supposed to be important role models to the students as they continue to develop both mentally and emotionally. This occurs throughout the different stages of their lives. However, if the person who is supposed to be the child’s educator and mentor is shown to be in support of guns, then the message that they are sending to the students will be negative. Having guns goes against the morals we teach the children everyday about the negativity of violence “ It’s saying the only answer to violence is more violence. The only answer to guns is more guns” (CBC) By having teachers use more guns, as an answer to more guns, it brings out that violence is the answer to the problem at hand.…

Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…

What if you were a teacher and an armed intruder came into your school? How would you protect your students and yourself? If we allowed teachers to carry a firearm that is stored in a locked container a student would not be able to acquire the weapon, and only in emergency situations would the teacher be allowed to remove it from the container. If there was to be a situation where an intruder entered the school building the teacher would be able to protect themselves and the students. There should; however, be a…

Nothing is more dangerous than the threat of being attacked by armed gunmen in schools. The school board, educators, and parents are arguing about whether should teachers be armed or not. One side believes arming teachers should be made legal in the state of California because, every single person has a right to defend themselves, the right with it to bear arms, many school districts are in rural areas far from such law enforcement protections, armed teachers help prevent emergency situations, and armed teachers would have minimized mass shootings. The other side believes arming teachers should be continued to be illegal in the state of California because, guns are dangerous, purchasing ammunition and guns for every teacher and training is…

With all the given information, it is very important that Campuses decide to vote yes on the upcoming law so students are allowed to use their God given rights to protect themselves and others in a crisis, decrease shootings on campus, and to allow students to make the decision on their own if they think it is safer for them to have a gun or not. Passing the law doesn’t mean that students need to have a gun, it simply means that anyone who feels better protected with a gun may have one as long as it is concealed. Other students shouldn’t feel threatened or uncomfortable by this law being passed because since the guns must be concealed it is almost impossible to even know if the student sitting next to you has a gun on them or not. Having a…
