Gym Bag Essentials
Dolan Gonzales Ms. Nazareth 7 ELA 10.12.17 Don't Leave Home Without It! If you’re an athlete, you know how important your gym bag is. It has all your essentials. For a runner, those essentials include your uniform, a drink with electrolytes like Gatorade, snack food, a garbage bag in case of rain, and your spikes - a pair of light shoes with metal points screwed into the soles to grip the ground as you run. The morning of the big meet at Michigan State University, I was rushing after a late breakfast and shower to my spike bag, back and forth around the house, putting things in it to get ready for the meet later that day. Prior to deploying or even prior to going on a field operation, it is in your best interest to make sure you have all the gear necessary to surpass any obstacle that may interfere with the goal of the mission. For example if you are going to the field during the winter you should probably bring any or all warming layers you find needed to stay warm and prevent yourself from getting sick. Getting sick will take you out of the battle or incapacitated to continue with the operation. Also when you have completed your mission you should also check and make sure you have all the gear you had the day the mission began. It is also your job to ensure your fellow marines have all their gear as well. It is your job to take responsibility and check yourself as well as your fellow Marines. To prevent a loss of any serialized gear you can dummy cord it to yourself if possible. That way if there is a situation that requires immediate movement or anything of that nature, it will be secured to your body. You should check your gear before you go to sleep and when you wake up to ensure you are mission ready at all times. Being a United States Marine requires you to be ready at all times nights, weekends, whenever duty calls you need to be at the ready at all times. Having your gear ready for the next day is the best thing to…

Bullying needs to be stopped! The United States needs better laws to prevent bullying. How much more can teens take? I think laws need to be passed as soon as possible because bellying can cause you to get sick and I don’t mean you don’t have confidence in yourself anymore. WAY too many teens die from suicide each year because of bullying. The commercials on TV don’t scare bullies enough to get them to stop. We need better laws with better punishments!…

My thing carried is a cellphone. It’s convenient, awesome, and just great to have around. It represents everyone’s social status. Keeping up with friends is also ten times easier. I carry it with me always to keep in contact with everyone I know. My phone also serves as a multi-purpose fun machine. I get to play silly games when I’m bored, watch movies I put on my phone. Fight Club, mostly. Every night I make sure to charge my phone. A day without my phone is worse than it should be, but most people depend on their phone. So it doesn’t bother me.…

At Jack Hazard we bring tarps on our overnights, but I plan on living in the lap of luxury in my brother’s 5 x 8, two-person tent. A major factor I will have to consider is weight. I’ll have to be carrying enough gear and food to be able to enjoy myself without being crushed under the weight of my backpack. I’m going to need to balance my clothes and equipment with my comfort and strength. One of the most valuable things I’ve read about preparing for a trip is that having the right equipment and making sure it works properly can save you from a potential disaster, and I plan to follow that lesson. In the book Backpacking: The Ultimate Guide to Getting Started on Your First Backpacking Trip, Timothy S. Morris emphasizes the need to always try to conserve space and weight in your pack. Weight is the enemy, but if you arrange things properly, you shouldn’t have any…
