First starting out, you won’t be able to do everything. That was something that was hard for me to understand, because i wanted to be able to do everything. For bars, you might simply start by doing tap swings or pullovers. Some beginner skills for floor are cartwheels
or somersaults. I first had to gain balance, then i was able to to skills on the beam. You don’t necessarily have to wear a leo to practice. Some people wear t-shirts and shorts or leggings. Two necessities for me are tiger paws and grips. Tiger paws are wrist guards for when you tumble. Grips are things that protect your palms from the bar. If you don’t wear grips, there’s a possibility of getting rips.
In gymnastics, there are levels. You’re only in a level if you compete. Levels depend on the types of skills you do. There are certain requirements you have to meet before becoming a level. Before i finished gymnastics, i was a level 4. A few skills you are required to have are a kip, double back handspring, and cartwheel on beam. When competing, you go to a meet. Usually a meet is at another gym, but sometimes it’s a home meet. There will be judges at every event, bars, beam, floor, and vault. First, they call your name and you solute. Then, it’s time to perform. The judges take notes and after you’re finished, they hold up a sign with your score on it.
The very last gym i went to was CCC in Auburn, IN. my coaches were strict. Every night we had gymnastics homework which was always some form of conditioning. At gymnastics, we always had conditioning. It was always exhausting. Usually it was different types like arms, abs, legs, etc. if you get in trouble, conditioning can be a punishment.
