One of the most interesting facts I learned was the reason Halloween is on the last day October is because that is when the Celts believed the spirts of the dead came to earth. The Celts would honor the souls and the holiday was originally called Samhain. When the Romans conquered the Celts they took in some of their religions, this being one of them. Another interesting fact I learned from the passage is that the romans called this holiday “All Hallows’ day”. After many years it was called Halloween.
There are still many traditions we follow today. One of these traditions we follow today is carving a Jack-O-Lantern. We do the because there was once a man named Jack who was very greedy and never shared his money. When he died
he wasn’t allowed in Heaven and he played tricks on the devil and wasn’t allowed in Hell either. His soul was stuck on earth and we carve pumpkins to remind ourselves about what happens if you are greedy.
