First, playing video games can increase children's hand-eye coordination. According to Jordan Baird, “A study from the University of Toronto finds that people who regularly play action video games, like Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, are better able to learn new sensorimotor tasks, improve hand–eye coordination, than people who do not play video games.” What this means, is …show more content…
But what is hand-eye coordination? Jordan Baird quotes in the article, “Eye–hand coordination (also known as hand–eye coordination) is the coordinated control of eye movement with hand movement, and the processing of visual input to guide reaching and grasping along with the use of proprioception of the hands to guide the eyes. Eye–hand coordination has been studied in activities as diverse as the movement of solid objects such as wooden blocks, archery, sporting performance, music reading, computer gaming, copy-typing, and even tea-making. Games such as Sid Meier’s Civilization game series are a good example of increasing problem solving skills. The goal is to attempt to build an empire, from the Stone Age to the Information Age. Players are faced with many tough decisions in the diplomatic portion of the game, and are forced to make decisions that decide the fate of their empire for the turn. “Traditionally video games train problem solving and strategy development skills by getting the player solve increasingly complicated problems (Cognitive Dev. of Skills).” Another example would be a time based decision, and that adds pressure when making an action or decision. Until Dawn would be another good title to use in this situation. Until Dawn is an interactive drama with a touch of horror. The decisions are timed, and each one makes a difference in your story. The game falls around the Butterfly Effect, so there isn’t a set ending. Your decisions determine who lives and who dies, who has a grudge and who doesn’t, and so on and so forth. “In many cases there is a time pressure which develops speed and decision making skills(Cognitive Dev. of Skills.)” All in all, making a decision in a game can either ruin your experience, or make it better by opening up a new line in the story. The more problems you face, the harder the decisions are going to be.
