main theme throughout the Harry Potter books is the triumph of good over evil. This is true in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as well. However, applying this general theme of good vs. evil specifically to this novel, Harry must fight Voldemort's evil accomplice Quirrell to prevent Voldemort from getting the sorceror's stone and obtaining immortality.

I think another theme that is just as important to this particular book is the power of love. When Voldemort killed Harrry's parents, he was unable to kill Harry, and his attempt results in the scar on Harry's forehead. Dumblodore explains to Harry that although his parents are dead, their love for their son is always with him. Dumbledore explains to Harry that their love "is in your very

In J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the protagonist, Harry, is today's modern hero. The film of Harry Potter is the common tale of good vs. evil, with the good and evil in the story being completely obvious. Voldemort, Harry's adversary, intends to kill Harry because, as their prophecy, another element of mythology, foretold, "neither can live while the other survives." However, when good meets evil (Harry meets Voldemort) in the novel, good prevails both times; which is a very cliché concept.…

From the beginning lines of Pride and Prejudice, marriage is expressed as a central theme of the novel. Austen even makes the bold statement that “it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a large fortune, must be in want of a wife” (1). Throughout the novel, the question arises whether marriage is meant for love or for wealth and social status. Although Austen presents both sides of this argument in the text, marrying for love is favored.…

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling, offers readers a glimpse into the life of a neglected eleven-year-old orphan; discovering his magical capabilities and coming to terms with his surreptitious life. Harry Potter, the boy who lived, is nothing short of extraordinary in most wizards’ eyes; however, throughout the novel Harry struggles to accept his notoriety. The narrative presented is both a quest, an action-packed journey retrieving the Philosopher’s stone and facing Voldemort, and a rite of passage narrative, in which Harry questions his place in the wizarding world while dealing with expectations set out for him. Rowling uses such narratives to present Harry as a humble, brave, and caring protagonist who overcomes great adversity with the choices he makes.…

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is based on a children’s book by C. S. Lewis and follows the book faithfully. Chronicles of Narnia is a good movie because of a great character story line, because of the allegories used and because of the good lessons for children to learn. The movie is a retelling of the biblical story for a young audience. One of the techniques Lewis uses to appeal to a younger audience is his use of children as the main characters.…

To persevere is to continue through a challenge when the outcome seems bleak and to continue to push through even when everything seems to be falling apart. J.K. Rowling exemplified perseverance in her journey to becoming a successful author. Before the Harry Potter series took off, she was at a very low point in her life. Penniless, recently divorced and taking care of a child while on welfare, she sent off a copy of her first book with hopes of finding a publishing house that would take it on. She was rejected twelve times before she finally found a publishing company that would help her (Ostrowsky).…

Some of the earliest themes outlined are sacrifice, friendship, and love. Lily and James Potter sacrifice themselves for their son, Ron and Hermoine repeatedly put themselves in harm’s way and always make sure Harry is not alone, and Snape ultimately gives his life because of his love for Lily. In the end, Harry willingly goes to Voldemort to destroy the horcrux within himself. The blurred lines between good and evil are also prominent connotations. Draco, for example, struggles to deal with who he is as he lives in the shadow of his father and family name.…
