Roosevelt died due to cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1945. Truman was sworn into office the same day as Roosevelt’s death and said, “ The moon, the stars, and all the planets had fallen” -Harry S. Truman. On his first day, he traveled to San Francisco to make a treaty for the United Nations to arrange Germany’s surrender and traveled to Potsdam for a meeting with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. While in Potsdam, Truman was notified about a successful atomic bomb drop, and he demanded Japan to surrender but Japan refused. Two atomic bombs were then dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th and Nagasaki on August 9th. In 1949 Harry S. Truman won a second term as president. He was then noticed for managing an investigation into waste and fraud in the U.S military in his second term.
