What Is Harry Truman's Role In The Cold War
Harry Truman played a big role in history when he first became Americas 33rd President. Truman also took part in the Potsdam Conference in effort to discuss postwar for Germany. While trying to end the war Truman decided to bomb both Nagasaki and Hiroshima which led to Japan’s surrender. However, the actions shown by Truman led to the U.S Soviet relations to fall apart which then was the start of the Cold War. During the Cold War Truman made the policy of containment due to the spread of communism. Truman also introduced the Truman Doctrine which gave aid to both Turkey and Greece as a way to protect them from the spread of communism. During the cold war, Truman also came up with the Marshall Plan which was used as an aid to help some
European nations economy because he believed that communism attacks places with bad economics. Truman ran again for election in 1948 and won which lead to the creation of the “Fair Deal” which promised citizens national medical insurance, higher minimum wage, and increases in civil rights reforms. During Truman’s second presidential the threat of communism was extremely high so he then decided to support in NATO which also included Canada, France and the UK.
