Later on in life, Harry moved to Independence, Missouri for twelve years prospered as a farmer (Schlesinger 21). In that period of his life, he spent most of his time on his family’s 600-acre farm in Grandview. Harry was extremely studios and graduated from Independence High School in 1901. At the age of seventeen, Truman worked as a timekeeper for a railroad construction contractor, and attained work in Kansas City. He also toiled as a clerk and a bookkeeper. Harry Truman worked in the area for four years, he soon arrived back to the farm in 1906. Beforehand, in 1905, Truman joined the Missouri National Guard.
In 1917, when the United States of America entered the Great War, Harry Truman assisted on arranging the secondary Regiment on Missouri Field Artillery in France where he was named as captain. Two years later, Truman married Elizabeth Virginia “Bess” Wallace (Otfinoski 11). They’ve known each other since they attended the same school in Independence, Missouri. Eventually, they had a daughter named Margaret Truman on February 17, 1924. Margaret’s occupation was as a singer, but she later on became a famous author who wrote murder
