How did Truman go from a man deciding to go to the United States Military Academy because he was unable to afford college to the president of the United States? It all started when he met Lieutenant James M. Pendergast, a Kansas city political boss when he was a military commander. At this time he didn’t know the effect this would have on him later in life. The reason for this was WW2 was in it’s waning mouths and Franklin Roosevelt’s sudden death left Truman with many huge decisions all of which greatly affected our country. He had to decide whether or not to drop the atomic bomb on Japan and end the war. He made the decision to end the war with this new nuclear weapon because he knew an invasion of Japan would result in stupendous casualties of American lives. It was at this point in American history that everyone truly realized how powerful these new nuclear weapons truly were.
