Harvey Fields Case Study
1. The main points of Debbie Fields’ presentation were composed of a four part recipe that combines to make quality. The first part of the recipe is passion, which means finding something that you love and pursue it. The logic behind doing what you love is that you are going to be more likely to want to complete a goal that involves a passion rather than one that they are not very enthusiastic about.

The second ingredient of Mrs. Fields’ recipe is perfection, which translates to always giving it your best. The rationale behind this ingredient is that settling for less than your best allows for a mentality to be developed where you only put forth enough effort to either blend in or meet the minimum requirements. This type of mentality also

Fields’ recipe is perseverance, which translates to never giving up. According to the presentation, one of the reasons that it is important to never give up is that there are likely to be obstacles that will slow down progress toward goals. By not giving up, you will look for alternate ways to accomplish goals rather than buying into the idea that they cannot be accomplished.

The fourth ingredient of Mrs. Fields’ recipe is people power, which translates to having positive people around you. Those positive people may either be people with similar goals as you or people who want to see you succeed at your goals. Having people around with similar goals will help to establish an environment where everyone is able to put forth the effort required to accomplish that goal. Likewise, having people around who want to see you succeed at your goals is useful because it helps to setup a network of support.

2. The information provided in this presentation will be applied to my life in a multitude of ways. One of the ways that I will apply this information to my life is that I will continue to pursue a career that I am passionate about as that will help me to not only perform at my best, but to strive for continuous

The early chapters of the book focused on creating awareness to the idea that being truly successfully results from choosing a job that sparks passion, risk, and excitement in life. Combs gave excellent advice in aiding students to find what they are truly passionate about. While reading the sections that included reader interaction, such as pulling out a pen and jotting down your passions or ranking values of the workplace, I found myself actively participating in these exercises solely based on my own curiosity and interest in becoming successful. I found the exercises to be very useful as it helped confirm my passions and possible options for my dream job. Throughout the book, Combs provided excellent transitions from one chapter to the next. Being so engaged by suggestions within the book, I was lured into reading the next chapter and reflect on aspects of my own life as Combs brings up the topic.…

This concept is more for the independent, quick-paced mother. Being a very proud woman, Mrs. Hopewell has to manage dealing with her daughters behaviors and rather strange ways. One way she does this is with her common cliches. She frequently tells Mrs. Freeman that “it takes all kinds to make the world,” and she also tells Manly Pointer that “it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.” Mrs. Hopewell uses these cliches to excuse and pardon the behaviors of others that she either doesn't understand or approve of. This happens quite often with her daughter, Joy.…

In the article, “The Winning Edge,” the author, Peter Doskoch, explains the reasons to persevere. When you start something, don’t stop until you reach success. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Doskoch, Pg. 161, Paragraph 3). Being successful doesn’t pay off if it’s easy. Some will give up because “it’s too hard.” Isn’t that where the joy of success comes from? If it’s easy, it’s not worth it. You also have to realize that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they try to be. “The Winning Edge,” tells us how there is always more room for improvement. We are all human, and it is natural for us to make a couple mistakes here and there. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes. Another point that “The Winning Edge” points out is that we should all learn to like what we do. When we make a crappy mistake and take a wrong turn in our lives, make the most out of it. Doskoch mentions that “Perseverance...can itself foster…
