Health Care Communication Methods
As the communication coordinator for this national drug manufacturer, we will need to address the issue at hand and figure out the best way to handle the negative publicity one of our medications has caused. Unfortunately, the local news is already making things more difficult for us by alleging that a well-known public figure is among those suffering adverse effects from this medication. We will need to decide how to properly address the public that will ensure no loss in business or investors. In this meeting, we will need to determine the best communication tactic to get this situation under control.
Our first option would be traditional media. This would include newspapers, magazines, radio, and television. Newspapers and magazines would be a great option because we could precisely communicate the issue, while allowing the information to sink in as it is being read and serve as a form of record of our reaching out to the public. Written communication is a permanent means of communication. Thus, it is useful where record maintenance is required ("Written Communication - Meaning, Advantages And Disadvantages", 2013). The consumers would a physical copy of what our company was saying allowing them something to refer back to. Our other two options could also work as well. With these options, we can give our audience the chance to see or hear our emotions about the situation, which gives us the opportunity to connect with them. Although there are some advantages to these methods, there are also disadvantages. With any of these options we risk only reaching a small number of people, since not everyone may get a newspaper or watch television. With traditional media we would need to make sure that the person writing our statements has good vocabulary and writing skills, otherwise the quality of the statement could have a negative impact on our company.
