Employee Handbook Progress Summary During week 2, Learning Team D broken down the sections that we will each work on for the final Employee Handbook Nondiscrimination Paper due in week 3. Karen White has stepped up and agreed to lead the team for weeks 2 and 3 since the projects overlap during those weeks. Karen will be covering the introduction, conclusion, one bullet point, and editing the final draft together. Sharon, Shani, and Sade will each be covering 2 bullet points for the final assignment due in week 3. As a team we also chose what topics we would like to cover in the nondiscrimination handbook paper. Breaking down the assignment and allowing each team member to choose the subjects that they wanted to cover has worked well for us. This allowed us to choose the bullet points we each think we would be strongest at, thus benefiting the final project. The team faced a few communication challenges this week. We had a team member drop the course without notice so we were scrambling a bit to ensure all sections would be covered for the final project. However, overcoming these communication challenges was easy for us as a team. Since the entire team filled out the team charter we had other ways to contact each other than just the team forum. Text messages allowed us to gain confirmation that one team member did drop the course and allowed the others to let the team know they had some setbacks but would be checking into the forum before the end of the week. The team has agreed to try to abide by the ground rules regarding communication and assignment deadlines as outlined in the team charter for all future work. The team as a whole is functioning well together and changes on approaching the

The RPP is complete and also take into account specific responsibilities of various entities within the forces (fire marshall, Preventive medicine tech, Chief medical officer, direct supervisors, etc.). One drawback of this program is that no data is kept in the centralized medical file for fit testing of mask or apparatus. The assessment of the individual for its ability to wear is the responsibility of a department which does have limited access to the medical information of the worker. In addition, civilian employee’s medical file is not included in the centralized database. Supervisor’s notes or comments about the workers respect for protection usage are not accessible to medical personnel. This limits the ability of the preventive technician to assess properly the situation and possibly make a correlation between exposure and protection measure, individual or administrative. Given the tight deadline and the complicated nature of the task, a form of communication high in channel richness is required. “Face-to-face conversation scores highest in channel richness because it transmits the most information per communication episode—multiple information cues (words, postures, facial expressions, gestures, intonations), immediate feedback (both verbal and nonverbal), and the personal touch of being present” (Robbins, Judge 2011 p.358). Therefore, face-to-face conversation would be the proper channel in this situation. Not only does this communication channel meet the requirements for the time sensitive situation, it also is able to provide immediate feedback from the team letting me know that they both received and comprehended the message that was sent.…

GROUP WORK TIPS Your group will benefit from diversity. You are encouraged to form groups with a broad range of skills covering quantitative analysis, writing, editing skills and leadership skills. You should also try to form groups that cover diverse industry groups and cultural backgrounds. You should consider appointing a leader for the group. The role of the leader is to coordinate meetings and set deadlines. However, the group should still agree on decisions made by the leader and the group cannot expect the leader to bear responsibility for the group’s performance. At the initial stage, avoid assigning different tasks to each member. You are encouraged to work as a group, meaning you should first think about the project as a whole, write down some bullet points, and then meet together to work out a plan prior to the assigning of tasks. Also, do not expect to simply ‘compile’ different bits and pieces from each member to form an assignment. The group needs to sit down and ensure the whole paper reads consistently and is interconnected. Set deadlines. Think creatively about ways to make the group meetings enjoyable. Choice of location and some nice food can make a difference. Most importantly, get excited about your topic!…
